I got a site down message today at 12.20 CET (GMT+2). All my customer sites were down until at least 15.30. So this was a 3+ hours full network outage at Jodohost.
All jodo sites were also down. Already multiple times was promised that support.jodohost.com had been made available outsite the jodo network in case of any jodo issues.
Your Twitter account was also completely silent. Tweets were kept unanswered.
My question is if you can provide better communication. I read afterwards that you guys used facebook for some communication, but from my perspective stick with your own sites an twitter.
And at least provide some redundancy. A single component that gets your complete network down for 3+ hours is really a shame. This incident got your uptime score lowered to <99.5% on a monthly basis. One of the most worst scores of the last years!
Twitter hasn’t worked entirely right, and if I got DMs I was replying them because that’s all I could do. I was replying DM SMS if they came in to me there. Facebook is the primary network for communications and it WAS continually updated. This forum is off network, but DNS being unable to answer meant you can reach it. We’ll have the jodohost.com DNS off network by the end of the month, so the forums won’t go down if JH DNS is down.
However, the entire time there were problems I was in the datacenter on the front line, updating was important to me but not priority 1. I even had people call my private cell phone because the somehow dug up the phone number in some info available.
Twitter simply won’t allow me to reply saying something happened, both via web ui and via twitter apps on the phone. It’s been this way for a long time. That’s why you didn’t see/get posts there.
