What seems to be the issue with putting ASP.NET 2.0 on the old servers? Other hosts seem to be doing this.
And from what I have read 1.1 and 2.0 can coexists on the same server without issue.
From the announcement posted by Yash - “Upgrading these servers to 2.0 has proven to be impossible for us and can cause serious stability issues. Hence these servers will not be installed with 2.0 at least in the near future.”
Again, just curious to know what the real issue is on this as it seems others are doing it.
HSphere and .NET 2.0 are not compatible unless they are installed on a fresh server in a particular manner.
Some HSphere hosts made the bad mistake of upgrading their windows servers and hours later all their IIS metabases were corrupt and they faced massive downtime.
We will continue to test .NET with existing installations of HSphere. PSOFT is making efforts to correct some of these issues (eg: The .NET Framework 2.0 Problem Solution for Winbox ) but they still exist. Once we are positive that the stability of our existing servers will not be affected, only then we will be rolling it out on the existing servers
Thanks for the update Yash. More proof that JH is looking out for their customers. JH could have jumped right into asp.net2 and had all the problems that other hosts had. But instead they moved forward cautiously.
We all want the latest and greatest stuff as soon as we can get it. I think thta psoft should have been more proactive about their support and testing of asp.net2. If they had been ready for asp.net2 then it would have allowed JH (and all other hosts) to move quicker.
Yes, thanks for the update. Just wanted to know why as well since it does not appear to be an issue on the IIS side itself. Too bad Hsphere has this problem. Hopefully they will have it resolved sooner than later as i know it will become an issue as we ourselves are going to try and trnasition all new devlepment over to 2.0 ASAP and thus our clients will be impacted ast some point if they want new apps created.
