If I set up a mailing list, is there any way to access the file that it uses to store all the subscriber names so that I could programatically add new users?
Unfortunately no. What I recommend is that you get your subscribe form to send an email from the customer’s email address to the mailing list email address. That would automatically send a subscription confirmation email to the subscriber

Thanks Yash… I realized that after I setup a mailing list and saw that it was a standard listserv. 8)
