Backups policy and hacks

Hi,

I don’t know if you are aware of what happened to asmallorange hosting company and others this month. Their servers were compromised and many customers had their sites defaced, they received an extortion for money with DOS attacks, etc.
The main problem is that apparently the hackers encrypted the live systems so many of the sites that worked with mysql kept working until the hackers left destroying everything. Backups were in place, but because they were of encrypted data, now are unusable and many years of messages are lost.

Are you able to protect customers’ data from something like this to happen on Jodo?
What is the backup policy you have in place?
Is it possible to read it/see it?

Thank you very much!

Nothing to say about this?

We will not be releasing a document on how our backups are done, but it is a complex process involving many servers and from what I have seen of the ASO incident they allowed a lot of access from a home PC.

Each server is setup independently here, and doesn’t have a shared user/pass system like some/many companies use, it makes it complex in some ways for us, but it is worth it in security.
