Lots of users on one of my domains have been having intermittent problems over the past few days where they can’t login to any of the webmail apps. appears to be a connection problem with the mail server, as DWmail shows:
There was an error connecting to your mail server. Your server reported: [CLOSED] IMAP connection broken (server response)
I’m really close to losing clients over this, it’s pathetic that Jodohost can’t get the email system working correctly.
I have other clients on other mail servers (at jodohost) that never have a problem.
Not sure what mail server the problem domain is on, but the IP resolves to: 204.14.107.1
It is not us unable to resolve. I did a few changes some time back but one of the recent updates seems to have overwritten them. Please monitor from here and let us know how it goes.
so does this mean you definitely know what the problem was, and it was fixed? or does this mean that you’re trying a fix, but don’t know if it will work?
I hate to sound like an a-hole, but I hate telling clients it’s fixed, then have the problem happen again the next day…they tend to lose faith in what I tell them.
What it means is that during the last hsphere update, it overwrote some changes Tanmaya had made for the connection limits on IMAP.
See webmail is using one ip for many users in reality, so if it has a limit set at default, it can do some disconnects like you see in the errors. I believe he has increased the limit and letting you know and tell if any further problem comes up now
Stephen is correct there. This is an obvious reason for such an issue and we have received multiple reports today. Else techs could have already figured this out. Also, FYI not every issue may not be as trivial as it seems, moreover when it is intermittent.
to revise my previous question, I guess what I really mean to ask is “are you confidently sure users will stop getting this error message when they try to login”?
This problem, yes you shouldnt see unless there is some sudden rush of connections(rare). We are quite sure before responding about any sort of changes. They are always monitored before we assure you. Same here, it has been fine until now and we will continue to monitor it for next 6 hours. You can monitor yourself 24 hours before informing your clients to be 100% sure.
You really need to be sure that it’s fixed, because I can’t keep telling my clients that it’s fixed, and then have the same problems over and over. they get mad and use someone else!
I have used horde and DWMail just now, with an apyl.com address and have no errros, this is on the same server you saif you had problems with, I will use it for duty instead of thunderbird the rest of the day.
I’ve been having the same problem with webmail for weeks, its seems an intermittent problem, I can’t offer ticket number as i note cerebus is not operational.
Certainly there is a problem eg:
ERROR:
ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.
which occurs across all 3 webmail clients.
Also we know about cerberus, I have called them 30 times in the last 1.5 hours emergency tech support everything.
the one rpely they have given us is impressivley bad, telling us they could not help and we need to talk to sales to get a new key because its the wrong version or something, not even giving a temp key to get us going!
