Can't telnet to smtp servers... but can ping em

I have a problem I can’t work out.

I can ping mail.mydomain.com, but can’t send emails to em from where I am. Using them for auth’d mail on the server is fine, so they’re definitely working OK… but I just can get to them from here.

Tried “telnet mail.mydomain.com 25” but it won’t connect. However I can telnet OK to my ISP’s mail server.

Telnet command returns the error: Connecting To mail.mydomain.com…Could not open connection to the host, on port 25: Connect failed

Any ideas?

Please try now or let me know the domain name if still not working for you.

Thanks Tanmaya but still no joy. Will PM you the details.

Nothing is blocked at mailserver level, however we do have IPs in our ACL. I’ll see if its there.

Thanks for all the help and PMs Tanmaya, brilliant! You were indeed correct, my ISP was blocking port 25 inbound AND outbound, which they do for all accounts by default. Crazy!

This was a recent development on their part. I got them to unblock me and complained vigorously. All is OK now, sorry for wasting your time on that.

I also want to vigrously praise the level of support here at Jodo, and I know you guys have had a full day today. Or at least Stephen said so. Thank you!

Also a quick plug (for anyone here in Oz) for the Whirlpool Forums ( http://www.whirlpool.net.au/ ) where I quickly found out about my ISP’s new port blocking practices (and how many other people it’s pissed off, lol). A wealth of Oz knowledge in there if anyone needs it.
