Now we are getting to launch a very intensive site and our service account isn’t powerful enough for it. We are looking to move our domain to a dedicated server, but what will that do to all our clients who point to our nameservers? Would we sign up for the new server and just point our A record to the new one? We have over 100 clients now that point to us can’t afford to have them go down. Thanks for any advice.
what about using the DNS here, but using an A record to point your domain to that other server? That way you won’t run into problems, pretty much any other way is going to be a large problem.
Is that the same as what I suggested in my post? We have no problem keeping everything here and just pointing the A record for our domain wherever our new server is. Does the A record also change our NS.companyname.com or would that still be here?
you would not want to change the pointers at the registrar for the nameservers, just change within Hsphere to point to the new IP that the service domain website is hosted on. You could continue using mail here, or make custom MX records as well.
