Coming soon - personal initiative to start a security blocklist

I am going to be sending to all WinVPS customers an export of an IPSec blocklist to block known attackers of RDP, SQL, and FTP in our network.

I am going to make it publicly downloadable for others as well, but not totally ‘open’ (will post updates in customer only)

We will be using this blocklist on our servers as well.

I am very tied at the moment from working with winvps15 issues to expand on it further, but I want it to stay updated pretty regular.

Thanks Stephen, this is a good initiative!

I’ll probably look at sorting out a list to use within the next 2 weeks, there are a few complications to using it exactly as we have, since we are blocking a bit more than what will be needed here on many, and have some whitelists for our email addresses which won’t be needed.

I will work past these issues and work to have the first list available about mid October, and will work on a bit of a how-to on using them so that people can install these lists easily and make them block the problem IPs.

We’ve tested quick deployment of an incomplete (so far) listing to 3 different VPS clients with great results so far!

After next week I will be able to focus on this and get a tutorial for usage.

Running a couple days late on this, actually have the list sample ready, if you need it PM met and will set set it up.

Need to get some screenshots and howtos over the next couple days before I release it otherwise.

No problem Stephen, take your time and prevent getting overloaded too much with your (very good) initiatives!!!

Some of the 2008 rollout has me pre-occupied otherwise right now, it has a priority over personal tasks such as this until done.

I am still working on this, it is very easy to lock yourself out, and that is my own doubt on issuing it, but it really does wonders as the same time.

I used to have robodemo/captivate1, but can’t find it now. There are free and cheap alternatives I will be working to make a quick tutorial on this and publish the list as I have it now.
I don’t have time for the full writeup as I had desired.
