Continuing ColdFusion ODBC problems

What can be done about these ongoing ColdFusion ODBC problems? WinCF continues to give “<.” instead of page content several times a day. This morning the ODBC on Win6 crashed. There’s no telling how long it was out before I noticed it not working and contacted Live Chat, where Tanmaya found the problem and fixed it.

It is getting to the point where I feel I have to check my sites every hour just to make sure they are operating properly. Those that use CF on the index page won’t even open if CF Server or the ODBC has a problem. It is very frustrating, and has the potential to cause many of us to lose good customers.

PLEASE DO NOT MOVE THIS THREAD and hide it in the Server Issues section. Threads in that section never seem to receive any response from JodoHost. I believe a proper response, in a public part of the forum, will be far more beneficial to all of JodoHost’s current and potential ColdFusion customers.

Win6 has had an ODBC issue crash in a long while, there are hardly any issues on it. We haven’t monitored the ODBC service on Win6, although we monitor CF pages. I’ll add an ODBC monitor as well

WinCF - We have plans for this server. We believe some of the issues on because of edition of Win2003 its running. It isn’t able to make full use of all available ram, and we plan a rebuild of this server in the near future. I’ll let stephen update you on this

I always respond to threads in the server issues section. That’s where this thread belongs

Threads in this section may eventually get answered, but they also get ignored past an intitial response from JH, and that initial response is often delayed by days. That is why I WILL NOT open a thread in this Server Issues area, as it may never be answered. I have to use the more public forums that get checked more often by JH, hoping the post will get noticed. Of course, if the post brings to light any type of real issue, it is then moved and hidden in this section, which is a shame!

P.S. I wonder how long before this post is answered, if at all.

Firstly, when i come to this forum I used the New Posts link to see all new posts
Secondly, this forum is not hidden, it is accessible by all registered forum users. It is meant to keep things more organised.

Thirdly, I nor Stephen have ignored that ColdFusion post. We are aware of the issue that is being complained about the thread. I’ve acknowledged that issue and didn’t have anything immediately to add to that thread.

We know that .< occasionally appears on customer websites throughout the day. The frequency is small, but the issue exists. There is little documentation on this error and we have been working on a number of possibilities. A rebuild of WinCf is being planned

Yash, thank you for the insight on the probable cause and the planned efforts to correct it. This type of input is VERY MUCH appreciated. I can field, what has been at times, the daily calls from my clients better when I am informed. I look forward to the informative updates. Thanks again!

Hello,

The first step in our plans will be to get the new wincf2 server up here in the next 48 hours. I am going to make it in a similar fashion to wincf, so that the hshome is in e:(typically now it is in d:, but we can stay uniform on wincf with e:), this way if someone wants to move, they will not be forced to change if they have any hard-coded path names.

The new server will NOT be running windows 2003 web edition like the wincf server is currently. So the RAM limits will not be a factor there. Currently the WinCF server has 4GB of RAM, but the web edition prevents it from using more than 2GB of RAM, the only way MS allows you to upgrade from web to standard is via a format and reinstall, which is not really a valid option here, as that would mean a complete rebuild of the server.

SO the plan now is to being wincf2 online, and if some people want to move over, it will help bring RAM free on wincf and help some, then we can progress further with getting a permanent fix on wincf.

Sign me up for the switch!

I am working on that today, ran into a few issues, but am going to be putting in a weekend of work to get this online.

Ok, I have Wincf2 up, it is running Coldfusion MX 7, I need a few people to volunteer to test this, there are a few things about it:

  1. Drive patchs won’t change, it is still e:\hshome\user
  2. CF DSN creation does not work AT ALL, so a ticket is required.
  3. We need 3 people to test it for 3-4 days to ensure it is working as expected. I have tested it two days, but I will be the first to admit I am NOT a CF programmer.

I got one volunteer, but I really need another one, anyone else interested?

I understand not everyone has an account they can move for testing, so not trying to pressure anyone..
