I am one of the first resellers of JodoHost. For the most part I have been happy with Jodohost and it seems like they get a little more stable every year since the first year of Resellers.
But I am disappointed with the move policy. I have a client on one of the older Windows Servers. Every time I need to set up a asp.net 4.0 domain, I need to create a ticket. It seems like the newer Window’s servers has all of the access I would need to create a asp.net 4.0 application. When I asked about moving a client from old servers to the new servers I get a response that i need to do it manually there are many drawbacks to that including downtime. I am a manager for a very large software company that does commerce, and when we need to move servers we have the ability of creating an application on the new server copy the data over and when all is successful we change the way DNS is pointing and all is good and we can delete the old area on the old server.
Seems like Jodohost will do that, but for a cost. I have never once asked for money when the system goes down, since I know that is the “price” in doing business in an enterprise way…errors happen and hardware fails, but to charge me to move a client from an old system to a new system is just plan bad customer service. If you upgrade systems I should get the upgrade for free…that is what a shared environment is for.
If I have to either pay for simple things like making sure all my clients are on up to date software/hardware then why shouldn’t I go get myself a cloud server and do all the work myself, at least that way I don’t have to wrestle with the whole hsphere DNS issue (hsphere won’t let me create two areas with the same domain name).
What you are aksing sure may be possible, but NOT IN HSPHERE.
Hsphere is a big limiter to what can be done, 2003 cannot switch to asp.net 4.0 PERIOD.
It is not possible for us to move you, outside of the system and simply change DNS, I wish it was possible, but unless you are moving to something outside of Hsphere, it is not possible.
Really it isn’t even an issue of cost, we simply can’t move it the way you are suggesting here, DNS will be all fouled up.
I’d love to be able to switch to 4.0 across the board, allow properly configured user level app pools, web deployments, and several other things (oh yea iis 7.5/ftp 7.5 on 2008 R2 would be great!) but right now it is not really possible. We are working to make some changed to upgrade to 3.5 version of hsphere, but it isn’t completely what is needed, and I am not sure it ever will be, before Parallels does a switcharoo to force their hand to Plesk Multi Server.
I am working already to start training our VPS team for a transition away from selling plesk and going to WebSitePanel on the Hyper-V Solutions and Cloud solutions, for windows. But we still have a LOT of Parallels products in the basket right now.
You have always been fair, then I would say that Jodohost should look into a better control panel. Back when .NET was as big as it is now, HSphere might have been good enough but now it seems like it is lacking some back functionality.
