I sent in a ticket CFO-61241-869 asking for DNN rights to be setup on a domain.
They asked me to put the dnn core files in the domain and then they will grant asp.net permission to the domain.
I didn’t think that was the case. I thought if you gave the folder the appropriat permissions and had it set to inherit those rights for any folders underneath it then I could copy down the dnn files / folders any time I wanted.
Can you explain why I have to have it up there first?

We can set to inherit, but many times we have to forcefully to a preset for the permissions to fully apply properly.

I am having a strange problem getting the files from old host.
The first way I attempted to get the files I simply connected with FTP to old host and selected everything and had it pull them down.
The second way I attempted to get the files I have the file manager built into hsphere do an archive of the domain directory.
When I compare the 2 results I see that the archive from file manager leaves out some things… like the Providers folder underneath each of the DesktopModules\ActualModule folders.
I don’t have any certainty that I am getting everything. I would have thought the archive would have gotten it all, but it doesn’t. Any thoughts?
I am not sure that the acrhive tool can get in-use files, I had a similar issue just copying a CF site myself.

What do you recommend? Just doing the FTP? When I was doing the download with FTP I did see at least one file say transfer failed, but because the log didn’t keep everything I missed what it was.
I had to use filezilla FTP client, smart FTP failed repeatedly. Filezilla is a great client that I have had perfect success with.

I’ll pull that down and try it. I am using FlashXP which is normally great.
I’ll reply to the ticket and this post once I have the files up.
If it doesn’t work, send me relevant info and I will attempt server to server transfer.

The problem is… I don’t know if I am really getting everything or not.
I tried Filezilla and I continually get “Error Disconnected from server”. It happens randomly where FlashXP did not.
Well… I tried about 5 minutes later and now it is going. I have downloaded it all and it got the same amount as FlashXP did. I am in the process of uploading to jodo now.
As far as my experience goes, I’ve never had to have any special permissions assigned at Jodohost in order to run DNN instances on my domains.
Also, a quick way to get DNN core files uploaded is this:
This will save you hours of frustration trying to copy individual files. You will undoubtedly be AMAZED how much faster this process is!

This is the way I used to do it (after having Jodo setup rights), but for some reason the decompress wasn’t getting everything.
Come to think of it this may have been the technique used to upload files for upgrading from one version 3.x to the latest 3.x. I think since it didn’t work properly doing it that way I quit doing the decompress because I wasn’t certain it was working correctly.
My next fresh install I’ll try the zip and decompress again and see if I have any problems.
Regarding rights… I have always called and asked for rights. I wonder if they set your rights at the root of your account so that all the domains will inherit the appropriate rights. Actually I would like it that way for my account so I don’t have to ask for the file rights since many of my domains will use DNN under the same account.
If they are under the root, we set it to inherit, but if a new user, the settings will have to be made to inherit and set for the properly users to have the right permissions.

So are you saying that if I have account name “myname” account number “12345” and I ask for DNN rights that you set them up at the root level or do you set them up at the domain level that I am requesting at the time?
When I say root I mean the folder above all of the domain folders… which is as high as I can go.
Or should I ask for it to be set at the root level if I know I am going to have a number of domains using DNN?
I would say it depends upon who works the ticket, I put at the root level, but some techs possibly just at the domain, if you know you will have mroe than one DNN install, I think it would be best to request at the root level on the ticket.
