I currently have a site on a Linux box that runs Aestiva’s HTML/OS and I rebuilding the site in ASP/MS SQL.

I’ve created another domain on a windows server and the new domain name just has a 2 tacked onto it, like this:

domain.com - linux site
domain2.com - windows site

Here’s the question. When I finish building the new site, I don’t want to have to wipe out the original, setup another windows server and then copy all the domain2 stuff to it.

If I just do a re-point of the original domain DNS to domain2, will it work properly without reverting to the domain2 url’s?

As far as I know I didn’t use any hard links in the programming of the new site.

Anyone? I’ve going live with the site this weekend… Just so it’s clear, these are on Jodo’s servers…

you will have to make a domain alias for it to work

Thanks Stephen, so as long as I don’t hard code links, the user can type in http://domain.com (the alias) and the entire site will look and behave as as if it was the http://domain2.com site?

Great! One last question (I hope!). What about exsisting email accounts and email lists? How do I go about using the exsisting email addresses and lists?

Is it possible to move the mail files?

I eventually want to delete the http://domain.com (the orginal domain) out of the control panel and have the http://domain2.com (with the alias) left.

Ok, tried to create alias on http://domain2.com but it errored saying that domain.com is already taken.

I know that it is in use because I am using it now. So how do I add the alias to http://domain.com without taking down http://domain.com first?

I hoped to do this tonight… Help!

you will have to remove it form the other first, really no option on that front.
