downloading to VPS?

We have MSDN subscription to be able to download Microsoft applications. Some of them are quite big in size (e.g. 4GB for MS SQL Server) and I would like to download them directly to VPS instead of downloading to our local computer and uploading to VPS. I’ve tried this but activex installations are disabled in IE setup.

This is a good security setup but is there way to enable activex just for microsoft.com domains? Or a method to temporarily enable and then disable?

Best method is to download firefox, now I will say you will run into issues, unless you use winrar to extract the ISO, you can’t mount it as a CD inside the VPS (due to not allowing kernel drivers)

so, WinRAR is the best means to get the ISO to usable state.

You can check the trusted sites zone, add the msdn (and lots of other Ms sites) to the trusted sites, and make it allow downloading of ActiveX, it is a bit of a hassle however, and easier to just allow firefox download, and then firefox will login MSDN fine and download direct using a CDN network without activex, java etc.

(this is a rather new feature, used to have to use MS file transfer manager, and the Open License program a terrible java downloader)

actually it’s still launching MS file transfer manager at the end, therefore I’m not sure if it will work or not. Anyway worst case it’s always possible to upload the file through ftp.

You’ve pointed more important issue, which is making ISO to usable state. Will try winrar for that.
