On several of my JodoHost accounts we’ve moved over to Google Gmail - in the DNS settings I’ve updated to use the Gmail servers, and everything is generally fine.
Today I checked an account from the JodoHost controlpanel and it has a ton of new mail.
How is mail getting delivered to the JodoHost email account?
The account is [email protected] - the same account is setup in Google Gmail…
My DNS settings for the account (under the Jodo control panel) all reflect the Gmail servers…I’m not sure how email is getting delivered to the Jodo account!
We’re talking about 1,784 new messages in the past few months. None of it is valid - it’s all spam - so I’m not worried about it, just wondering how it’s making it to the JodoHost account?
Spammers keep the mail server address and mail address listed and use these details for spamming, this is done purposefully to bypass the process of MX record lookup and thus mail routes less and reach its destination faster however this prevent the mails being scanned for spam on various Internet watch authorities and blacklisting servers as they are not being routed through these servers and directly follow the destination IP address (mail server). This is the issue as all of these mails are spams as spammers are using your old mail server address with this particular mail address. Legit mail uses normal method of MX lookup. Please disable the mail services if you are not using it from H-Spere control panel.
Shubham’s recommendation is very good, if you aren’t using the mail service it is best to disable the mail. The spammers are a tricky bunch and have gone to using archives of MX records just to try, since they are already sending millions of mails through botnets, what is it to try some old records and worst case be denied mailing?
