Email Size Limit

Hello,

I have a client that is very, very upset X( . He said a client is trying to email him a simple 4MB file and the sender is receiving a bounce back saying that the remote host does not allow sending files of that size.

Please tell me our limit is not below 4MB? I would say the the absolutely smallest should be 10MB as that seems to be the minimum.

I look forward to your response.

Greg

Wow 10 mb that is pretty big for email, I would say 5mb as the highest to keep the server load down.

I think that low would make us one of the smallest in the industry. Back in the day I remember places using 1MB, then 2MB, then 10MB and it seemed to stabalize on 10MB and then some places started bumping it beyond that, but I think server load would then become an issue.

I am going to be working with a client to have a way for customers to upload a file to him, but in the meantime a file that I believe is actually just below 4MB should have been delivered. In todays business world a 4MB attachment is nothing. Utlimately I have to abide by what Jodo sets in place, but I need to know exactly what that is so I nor my clients are surprised.

Thanks

WOW! Guess I’m a real Ludite :third:

I still advise clients that anything over 1mb should be sent via ftp. Of course, we still have many businesses here using dialup…

I would like to know the bounce message (along with the domain name). Even 10MB messages can be send.

I saw it on a print out earlier… but I’ll get him to email it to me so I can cut and paste it.

Here is what it says:

This message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient’s mailbox is full. Create a shorter message body or remove attachments and try sending it again.

<hoserver.HEADOFF.local #5.2.3 smtp;450 5.2.3 Msg Size greater than allowed by Remote Host>

I already verified he didn’t have any issues with email space. From the message I am not 100% certain if it is complaining about our mail server or it’s on.

It doesnt looks like this bounce is from our server. Still please PM me the emailbox and i’ll check out the quota on server directly.
