Frontpage error on WEB5

Well… my same client that is ticked about several issues he has had on WEB5 is now having another issues.

He uses Frontpage… yea I know… but earlier he got the following error and since then cannot get in:

“The server could not complete your request” “The requested URL /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe was not found on this server…”

We are able to ftp in and the site is running, but he can’t publish any changes to it. It got to the point where it wouldn’t even clear his security with his username and password until he finally did the fix frontpage.

BUT he still get’s this error and is dead in the water. Ideas?

Waiting on live help now.

Have you tried disabling & re-enabling Frontpage extensions for his domain?

I believe he used the fix button. I haven’t heard back from him so I don’t know what is going on at this point. He was pretty upset with the problems he has experienced over the last 2 to 3 weeks, so I half expect him to simply move to another service and just let me know he moved.

He had been with one company for 4 years without any problems and then one month they had several issues and he immediately jumped ship. That tells me he will likely jump ship if he has been here only 3 weeks and has experienced 2 smtp queue problems on his web server which meant he wasn’t getting his orders sent to him and then had a extreme slow issue this morning with the server due to someone’s cron job, and then the frontpage issue.

Oh well… I’ll have to see what he does.

Hello a few notes to point out, I know Neeraj was working on this ticket.

I also now that Frontpage on unix has been officially End of lifed, and no support, upgrades, or downloads will possible of it in just a few months, effectively making frontpage on unix DEAD.

Second, and I know you know this, anytime in a shared enviroment there will be occasional problems, some users do not understand this, but at the same time don’t want to take the money to put into a dedicated server, where yes problems still happen when you are the only site, a dedicated server cna almost as easily get hit with a spammer in many ways, ESPECIALLY with frontpage extensions enabled.

If the issue is not resolved, I would recommend updating the ticket in the next 12 hours so that Tanmaya can see the issue.
And if the client is willing to take any advice from you, it would be time to steer them clear of frontpage, you can use the looming end of life as a statement that the support of frontpage will be ending on many many servers across the internet when this happens, as security updates will no longer be happening, and problems will not be resolved.
