FrontPage Extension Support on Windows Servers?

Hi,

I am a reseller and I have a customer who is on a Windows Server. He requires FrontPage Extension support and went with me specifically for the support on Windows. I want to make sure that your earlier e-mail and post in the support announcement forum is correct that you are ceasing support ONLY on Linux Servers? I need to know if this also applies to Windows Servers?

Thanks!

i don’t work for jodo, but yes it’s only for the linux.

ms doesn’t seem to want linux to be popular…
(did i type that? :stuck_out_tongue: )

Why can’t we all just get along!

Thanks!

The announcement is only for linux, we will support for windows as long as MS does. They have not updated it in years now(late 2003), but they still have it supported and downloads available.

MS made it so that no one could distribute the last package for frontpage extensions on linux, so anyone that was making a frontpage download for linux available was outside of the “law” therefore many have terminated FP on Linux support.

ms is coming out with this ‘new’ thing, called Expressions.. and a couple more complimentary tools…

all it is is Front Page, and yes it uses the fp extensions…

http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/en/default.mspx

so while i’m not an ms employee  i can guess that the front page extensions for windows will be around a while longer…

hth

Someone on Psoft’s forums mentioned about this (as told to him by MS technical support):

Frontpage built websites will continue to work, but exactly will be lost once you discontinue the extensions is this:

  1. The ability to publish the site using http & the frontpage extensions.
  2. The ability to edit the site live in frontpage.
  3. Any forms that were built using frontpage.
  4. Any hit counters installed using frontpage.

The photo galleries built using the photo gallery wizard will continue to work.

He was also told that FP extensions are indeed required by Expressions Web Designer to use it fully.

FP Extensions are not needed by expressions web designer betas that I have installed however

I said “fully”, go figure
