FTP uploading Issues..

WebD,

Why if you can’t upload is the problem with us? We have hundreds, thousands even, of others that upload all the time with no problem, I really can’t tell you whats going on from the logs but the server itself is NOT timing out like the logs say, there is something in your connection that is causing replie to be stopped, it may be a router/firewall, it may be a network issue with your ISP, it may be a packetloss issue at your ISP network.

I did find out its only Linux, Windows upload fine. Very strange.

Anyone have any idea why it Linux giving me the problems and not WIndows.. THis tells me its not my firewall or IP I believe.

Was web3 change to a new server lately?? Reason I asked is I never had a problem on web3 till rencently, and these uploading issues have been with new servers using Opetons.

So curious this problem is…
WebD, I know you have tried many things, but a couple things I do not see you mention explicitly that you may have done:

[ul]
[li]Trying to FTP from outside your ISP (so, from a friends house or coffee shop)[/li][li]Trying to upload from a completely differnet machine (dif OS, network, maybe) using same credentials[/li][li]trying to create a new FTP user within your account, and using that user[/li][li]Trying to upload to web3 from FileManager in Hsphere[/li][li]Trying to upload to a different account (so maybe Stephen could create a test account on web3 for you to practice on) – perhaps it is something that got real tweaked in HSphere when your account was first created?[/ul][/li]Just a few ideas from someone standing totally outside the situation… (but isn’t that what forums are about?) :))

Tim

Thanks Tim.

Nope none of the things you menthend I’ve done. Im always on the same computer, same IP when I work. I tryed using File Manger to see if things would work better, but the same. It is so bad now I can’t even load a .txt file.

When I go to a Windows server no problems, so I narrowed tha down. I want to see if web3 got changed to a Opeton server, that will narrow things even more. This is a very bad situation, because I have got to get work done and most of my clients are on Linux. My last client I put him on windows so I could work on his stuff and I’m having no uploading issues.

Jodo Is this possible something could of got tweaked on my account casuing this??? I remember when I first signup in 2004 about 3 months later, I had domain problems and Tanmaya had to fix each one.

It has nothing to do with being an opteron server.
Once you have a connection to the server, the only way it can be dropped is there is some sort of loss in packets to the server, or the server is being overwhelmed with connections. The server is far from being overwhelmed. The server is far from loaded.

Open a ticket, and one of the techs can try replicating the problem

Sorry for bumping up an old thread, but I have similar problems as WebD.

I have upload problems for Linux but not for Windows.

However, I only have FTP problems on the older server ( web8 ). When I FTP to web10 it’s perfectly fine.

YEP, its only certain linux servers as its been for me for over a year. Usually the newer servers is the ones giving me the problems more the Opetons then any of them. On cluster2 no problems what so ever on Linux uploading. Sometimes it takes hours to upload a script then find out it FAILED my uplaod to Linux servers. I usually will have support do the upload, just to time consuming to wait and wait.

Maybe now someone else sees this and doesn’t just think its me and this problem will get fixed, because i gave up and have people do my uploading, just ridiciuous.

Liming I guraentee you, if you try to upload to another providers Linux servers as a test like I did, there will be no problem, I uploaded to 2 other providers as a test, there ws no problem.

WebD,
just because one or two people have a problem uploading does NOT mean there is any problem and to suggest that it is only due to processors is just insane. It very likely IS the firewall but we have lifted all the needed items to allow it to work, you can switch between PASV and Active FTP on your side to try to work around isues but the problem is likley on your pc firewall side forcing it to try to use the wrong FTP ports when this happens, that being said yu can still upload via webshell or other means as well.

I really don’t care Stephen, everytime you say there is no problem, everyitme i say there is a problem you are the only to come back and say there isn’t.

Tanmaya as worked with me hours on this and said something is strange with the time outs. I have given up on this and just have people upload for me or support, i just don’t have time to upload large files, its impossible. Its funny isn’t it, how any other provider the uploading is fine on linux servers??? I bet if Liming tried uploading to another providers linux server he would not have any problems either.

Im done posting in this forum, you always don’t want to try to investigate but just say there is no problem.

ill be looking for service elsewhere screw this crap. You guys think its only me and like to complian then then someone else sees the problem and now I hear just because 2 people sees it it still don’t mean nothing.

Screw this, I have wasted time after time with the damn hsphere issues, complain and complain, on top of that lost time and time with the uplaoding issues, You know money is time in your clients businesses. You guys take forever to do the Hsphere ugrade and again you are the only one saying that won’t make a difference but Tanmaya says it might. who knows if you guys never do it. OVer a year and im sure other clients are tired of hearing excuses about it.

Do you know how frustrating it is to sit here for over 10 min. if i wnat to edit a plan, check email via webmail etc or do day to day tasks in Hsphere. DO you know??? And im not the only one with the Hsphere issues, this has been brought up several times by many.

I have spent money putting all new parts in my computer thinking that could be the uploading issues and maybe Hsphere issues, but it wasn’t. I’m getting no where with JODO.

Just frustrating, acveration and headaces.

webshell or other means as well.

If I had another option I would use it, I told you guys this, other options don’t work either we tryed all of them..

WebD, if you want this issue fixed, your best bet is to continue to work on this through our support channel. as you mentioned yourself, tanmaya has spent hours trying to find out why your connection times out. This is not a blanket problem with our servers or network.

liming, if you could submit a ticket with the FTP log, we’ll surely investigate

WebD, we do not want to lose you as a customer. You are infact one of our biggest resellers, and will be more sensitive to issues. However that said, you must understand no host is perfect. There are no instant fixes to issues, they take time

We understand the ControlPanel has been working slow during certain times in the day, and have planned not only maintenance but another server migration to look into it. We are also looking into Web8’s FTP performance. The support team has spent countless hours with you, I doubt you’ll get such treatment elsewhere.

If you have these many accounts with another host (on almost every server), you will notice varied problems. And I doubt any of them will come out to address your issues or provide the support we do

Hi Stephen

Can you elaborate a bit more on this? The 2 firewalls that I have is the built-in Windows XP one and also my router.

Is there some setting that I should check? Or should I try disabling both of them first to upload?

Thanks!

  • Just a note, uploading via the webshell did work for me (on web8 ) initially for smaller files, but then I tried to upload a 3MB .tar.gz file and then it didn’t work anymore.

Hi Yash

I’ll do that  Just a quick question, when you mean FTP log, do you mean the log generated from the FTP program?

If that’s the case, I use Filezilla and was wondering if you can tell me where to get the log. Thanks!

I can tell you liming its not a firewall, i have tried everything and everything!

No, the general connection log that you see while uploading files via a FTP client.

Also, Tanmaya will be doing some tests on Web8 and reporting back here

I updated the ticket alone and not here. Liming is it still bad for you?

^ Hi tanmaya!

I tested it 2 days ago and everything seems to be fine. I’ll be doing more soon and I’ll keep you updated.

One thing I did was switch over to passive mode, so I’m not sure if that was also an issue.

Thanks!

I tested both active and passive mode for you, on your support ticket and got almost same speed each time. However passive mode does helps with firewall/packets drop related FTP problems.

Thank you for the update.
