FTP uploading Issues..

I am having trouble uploading to jodo servers, I am getting time outs and fails. Again I have wasted 4 hours trying to upload 1 CRE Loaded cart, Zips, and .jpg’s

I have put a ticket in and they asked for the CRE to be in a zip file and you would upload it. Will I couldn’t even upload the zip file onto 3 different jodo servers (web7, web6, web3).

I had to use 1&1 hosting to upload this zip for support to get it, and I had not one problem that occured while uploading on their servers smooth as ice.

Im telling you something is wrong why I can’t upload. I brought this up in the past as well..

WebD,

you have mentioned it before, I have tried from my home DSL, office DSL in Miami, locally, even from wifi hotspot, I can continually upload without any problem from all these, I use filezilla and smartftp, both work without a problem at all.

What I have noticed in the past is if I try to upload a large amount (100’s - 1000’s) of files (via SmartFTP or Hsphere’s File Manager) it will die somewhere in the process. If, however, I zip all those files, then upload them, there are no problems whatsoever (then uncompress in file manager). I haven’t had problems in a very long time. I upload large files (30MB+) all the time.

I got to suspecting that it was a problem with my client (typically Smart FTP) just getting overwhelmed and not being able to handle the large queue.

I did see smartftp have an issue only with a large queue, I think I was uploading a DNN site one time fully extracted and ti kept disconnecting, switched to filezilla and it worked perfect, I haven’t used smartFTP much since then, as filezilla meets all my needs, I occasionally use FireFTP the firefox extension, it works well too.

I can upload to any other companies server with no issues (i.e. 1&1.com etc.) but jodo servers I have problems, I don’t get it. Lately its worst then it use to be. It is now taken over 10 hours to upload one CRE loaded cart. Support didn;t upload the correct files i asked them to, still waiting.

why don’t you paste ftp logs editing out the domain name, then we can maybe see why you have such continual problems, seriously if everyone had as much ftp issues as you there would not be 100’s of GBs of files on the servers

Thats why I don’t understand, why I am having the problem I know other people are not the same issue, I just don’t get it and how I can upload anywhere else. I know its strange but its happening.

Provide the logs and we’ll see if we can identify why it is happening, you can remove the user, and domains, but keep all else and we can likely tell what’s going on.

Logs from where the control panel under the domain I was working or wsftp pro logs?

your ftp client logs, ah wsftp, it has problems with active/passive ftp and switching between, move to an up to date client like filezilla and you will be in shape

I knew that was not it, I downloaded FillaZilla same problems.

You have a software firewall?

Yes, but it happens when i turn it off as well. I tried that. Why would I have no problems on other companies servers. Telling you this is very strange… :frowning:

there is surely something odd, I have NEVER had, nor even seen such an error before.

Its drving me crazy… Maybe Tanmaya has a idea…

FTP has never been 100% stable to jodohost servers for me. Best thing to do is use Filezilla with a lot of retries and multiple streams enabled. But even then I have to requeue 1 to 2 percent of the files when uploading 1000 small files.
It’s a pity, but not a very big issue as the requeue can be done very easily using Filezilla (free/opensource http://filezilla.sourceforge.net) .
By the way the cause for this is not only Jodohost, also ISP’s most of the time are using routers which produces timeouts from time to time.

Jan-Pieter

On occasion an upload fails for me, but like jpveen mentioned that happens on just about any FTP server :frowning:
It would be nice if SFTP support were introduced, since it doesn’t open any additional data connections like FTP while also supporting data compression and encryption, so plain text passwords are no longer a problem either..

I too, frequently have trouble uploading to Jodo via ftp. However, it’s not as bad as my previous provider. I also notice that problems occur more when uploading 100’s or 1000’s of files compared to a single zipped file.

I tried many different ftp clients and finally settled on FileZilla, as it seemed to fail slightly less often and it’s queue management is easy to understand.

I also found certain times of the day better than others. Possibly to do with traffic congestion?

However, using ftp was still a pain until I switched off compression. This has made a significant improvement (although still not perfect), so it might be worthwhile trying.

Edit > Settings… > File transfer settings > Compression.

I don’t know why it makes a difference in my case - it’s not as if I have a slow CPU - but at last, using ftp is no longer a pain in the nether regions

WE have a problem. I stil can’t upload and its getting worst. I can’t even upload one .txt file at times. I can’t get no work done at the moment becasue I can’t upload.

I know no one else is having this problem, but when I can upload to other hosting compaines servers there are no issues, so SOmething is wrong.

We need to try to fix this, cause I can’t get nothign done and this is not going to work.
