I have a site that has been down for a full day and I don’t feel that I’m getting much help. The site is a WordPress site that happens to be on an old Windows 2003 server. The site was originally built using classic ASP and was recently upgraded to a WordPress site. The site was working fine on this server (though a bit slow) on Friday evening. As of yesterday morning, the site was unusable. Extremely slow and getting time out errors all the time.
Your support blamed it on a plugin and just renamed the directory, thus breaking a lot of items in the site. When I went back in to reactive the plugins one at a time, I barely could access the administration side of the site. I still am having issues accessing all areas of the admin side. I’ve had to put a holding page on the site because it’s so incredibly slow.
I took a backup of the database and the site and moved it to a testing server using Linux. I modify the config files and the necessary records in the options table to point at the new database and server. The site runs on linux, no plugins are causing problems.
My ideal solution is to have the site moved to a Linux server, but I have been told you have no way of doing this. I have been told in the past the only way to do this is to recreate the site in a linux stop-gap domain, make a manual note of all of hte e-mail addresses and recreate them on the new server, then delete the windows server and add the domain to linux. This is not possible. The client is actively using their e-mail have have a lot of e-mail data stored on the server. We cannot have them lose this. So I’m left with having them moved to a Windows 2008 server, which I hope will resolve some of the issues, but I know that there are other issue with WordPress on Windows that I will have to deal with.
I am left with solutions that are not ideal and a client with a website that will be down for close to 48 hours before this is resolved. Please help. The ticket number with specifics is EPY-50211-177
