Has WIN 5 really improved?

OK - so now it’s been almost 6 months since I decided to quit Jodohost for the majority of my clients due to unrelenting reliability problems. Since then I’ve been monitoring Win5 and there is good and bad news and I would be interested to hear a response.

2005: 63 outages out of 34523 checks (every 5 mins) = 99.395% - below sla, but still not too bad. Certainly MUCH improved on 2004, which as those of us who were unfortunate enough to experience it, was apparently plagued by hardware problems.

Unfortunately, I cannot justify moving back since the stats for my current host are 13 outages and 99.925%.

What say you Jodohost?

I have no complaints about Win5 uptime at the moment.
There have been a few incidents with the mailserver over the past months. Nothing too serious, but I think that those are more of an issue at the moment than Win5 stability.

63 outages this year to date AND mailserver problems together don’t concern you at all?

I have not seen that many win5 outages, we have been monitoring it very closely internally and externally.

Stephen - even your own monitoring account shows you have had at least 40 outages. Which I don’t understand anyways since we use the same service. Maybe you just dispute some of them and they remove them?
Anyways, this is yours, as provided by Yash:
SiteUptime - Website and Server Monitoring Service

I would have to say that I believe mine more than yours, since mine actually checks my website, which uses ASP, rather than just for http. You will see 3 outages in the three days of May that we have had so far. Very good.

OK - I guess that makes 41 now…

so we can find time to move the thread, but not to answer it?

Your siteuptime is reporting 99.35% uptime and our siteuptime reporting 99.78% uptime. Now the same service reporting different uptimes looks quite bad.

As I said before, I do not believe in these reports. Win5 has not had any downtime incident since December, 2004. There have been a few reboots in between that time but nothing totally 41 outages. I suspect most of them were 10 or 15 second time outs and had nothing to do with our server.

Also Legalalien if you were to resignup, you’d end up on win9 or win8.

timeouts are as bad as downtime as far as i’m concerned. if a website doesn’t load within a reasonable amount of time, i will assume the website is down and am clicking somewhere else

Our own OpManager reporting tool has not reported anywhere closed to the number of outages or timeouts reported by SiteUptime.

If we were really having these sort of timeouts, Win5 would have been very slow and there would have been tons of threads regarding Win5’s performance. The truth is, we have never not complaints about Win5 in a long time and the server is maintaining above SLA uptime

Amen (is that how you spell it?). I have logged 14 timeouts (so far) today alone. I am monitoring several sites using the same tool and only my site here has been timeing out so I know it’s not my ISP or my PC. My timeout is currently 20 seconds, and I check every 2 minutes.

It’s gotten to the point that these are so often and so temporary that I don’t even both complaining anymore.

My timestamps for today are (in EDT):

EDIT: I have no doubt that JH’s position is that it’s network latency.

EDIT(2): I should also add that my site is heavily dependant on the SQL server, so that may in fact be a possible cause of the problems, rather than simply looking at the web server.

So what SQL server is it on?

Even siteuptime has reported no such timeouts in the last 24 hours

A timeout being recorded by a monitoring system doesn’t mean your site is down or unavaiilable.

Win5 is performing 100%, it has had no downtime since december ,2004 and we have received no downtime complaints.

If you notice downtime, please report it on the forum. There are hundreds of different monitoring services out there reporting different things and I cannot give you an explanation of every single thing they may pick up.

Our own monitoring system has not reported any such problems on Win5 and we’ll stick to it.

well so long as your own monitoring service doesn’t pick up anything i guess that’s OK

Bravo Jodohost!

Furthermore, if you are not satisified with Win5 (i see no reason you shouldn’t be) you can request to be moved to another windows servers.

That indicates no issues to us. Win5 has been performing very well both internally and externally.
I have been using these sorts of services for a long time now. The only accurate service I have found is alertra.com that checks uptime from 3 different locations.

If you use that service, I’ll take it credibly.

Logan, siteuptime is configured to monitor your site gu…s.com

So if this is true, siteuptime has recorded 0 timeouts and your PC has recorded 14 timeouts?

Enough said.

Additionally, we have Win5 monitors that actually check Win5 sites for asp content and verify it. We have the monitoring systems in place to ensure that if there is a problem, we can take care of it

As such, we have noticed no such problems. nothing has been reported to us and Win5 is performing exceptionally well. If a timeout is ever reported to you again, i encourage you to check the site as well as see whether its loading or not.
