Hosting Aliases

Hello,

I have a problem I am trying to solve. Support have said it can’t be done, but I wonder if anyone has any cunning ideas to solve it

I have a website setup at name.servciedomain.com
I then setup my clients domain www.clientsdomain.com as a Hosting alias to the one above.

All cool so far, but now I want to map a subdomain of the clients domain to the first domain as well. ie sub.clientsdomain.comname.servicedoamin.com

Any ideas greatly appreciated!!

(The reason I need to do this is to present a different style on a site using the same underling pages and logic. ie I will change the style dynamically dependent on the requesting URL.)

Sorry if this reads like gibberish!

Cheers,

Paul.

well if you had access to IIS you could easily set both to point to the same folder… i’d ask support if this is something they could do for you.

it would possibly have dns issues, but other than that while we could do it, it isn’t something we would want to do, and could be problematic as hsphere would continually be warring with us.

Hi there,

Thanks for the replies.

Hey Stephen, what dns problems would it cause? The dns is external, does that help. I don’t mind paying a fee to get this setup, as it will save me a whole heap of duplication.

Cheers,

Paul.

Even though it is external DNs, you may have issues with adding the alias in hsphere(dns zone in use error). If we do it 100% manually, if you change anything in hsphere it will remove it, making us have to redo the manual edit again, while your site is down.
