I may be looking to get off of shared / reseller servers in the near future. Mainly so I KNOW EXACTLY who is on my server and causing what problems. Basically removing all other outside causes from interferring with our sites. I don’t have a lot of issues at all, but having just small number of mail issues or speed issues… even if it is only one time a week is enough for some of my customers to be upset.
I have looked at VPS, but not sure if it is the way for me to go. I do need mySQL, MSSQL, mail services and basically all the features I now have with the reseller account. Areas I wold be concerned about:
-
Low memory: Looking at the VPS I am concerned about the low memory given to the lower plan. Just doesn’t seem like a lot at all. Getting the larger VPS accounts is cost prohibitive for me at the moment.
-
Still shared environment: I am still sharing the server among other folks and could have issues outside of my influence. I know the VPS should provide protection though.
-
Locked into one platform: If I understand this is just Windows currently and if you needed the *nix world it would be a completely different account… unlike hsphere where we have mult-servers.
I have looked at dedicated, but that gets even more expensive.
I have thought about getting my own server that I have control over and doing co-location, but I am not sure JodoHost does this.
Anyway… just looking for options and thinking about different ways to get off of shared servers.
My customers are folks that I do IT consulting with so I am not running your traditional hosting type company.
Thanks
