Hyper-V Questions

I have a customer who I will be putting on Hyper-V to run their remote SQL database, just have a few questions before I venture in to uncharted ground.

• The customer will be running the day to day server operations, In the event of issues with a virus or some sort of attack eating up the bandwidth is there a way we/I can be alerted to stop the server going over the monthly cap or even just shut it down. This is my main concern for this option.

• When signing up I take it I will need a domain for the control panel then a separate domain name for the customer for me to attach to the server. Or has the panel got a DNS zone I could just point at the servers IP address.

• Is it possible to set up an account on my reseller account to manage the customers billing, also would it viable to create a DNS and allow them to point it at the VPS. Bearing in mind the VPS sole use is for SQL.

Sorry for all the noob questions, but until I see what its all about its hard to make definitive plans

  1. it would continue going, no option to shut down. I’d recommend IP filtering as much as possible to prevent attackers from wasting bandwidth in a big way.

  2. You don’t need a domain an the Hsphere is just a billing interface to it, not attached or controlling at all.

  3. I’d recommend to just do that, make an account, use their existing account with a custom A record, no need to get fancy.

Thanks for the reply Stephen, just signed up. So the next few days will be exciting.
