Issue with Outages forum posts

Hi all,

It’s great to have the Outages forum and being able to get notifications via email - but they always arrive HOURS after the issue has taken place, and it’s usually resolved by then.

So you click on the link in your email, and read about a server issue that was found and fixed several hours ago. Not only is this a bit pointless, but if a client calls to complain, there’s no information to tell them! It makes us look like we don’t know what’s going on - which is actually true.

Subscriptions to TOPICS seem to get posted immediately. That’s great. But subscriptions to FORUMS take hours to get delivered when there’s a new topic.

So the simple solution is to change something in the forum code so that forum subscriptions - especially Outages - get sent IMMEDIATELY as soon as the topic is created.

Can this please be done by someone, so that we are informated in a timely manner about Outages issues? That would be fantastic if someone could do that.

Thanks for listening.

i thought it was only me that this happened to.

good point antic

forum subscirptions don’t take hours, the only deliever at midnight each night :frowning:

Is this true for subscriptions that you subscribe to as Instant?

This is for the forum subscriptions, there is no option for instant on them.

Stephen, the forum subscriptions allow you to select either instant, daily or weekly email notification, it’s available through the thread tools bar and the advanced posting options. I don’t know much about vBulletin but if you’ve set it to only send daily email notifications something has gone a bit screwy as the different subscription options are still available,

The options for Forum subscriptions are None, Daily and Weekly. Padwah, I think you might be talking about the Thread options?

There is no “instant” option for Forums at the moment. Is this something that can be configured at the Admin level of vBulletin? If not, surely a simple tweak of code is possible for someone here that knows php? It just needs to send em out as soon as a topic is created.

Ok I found this:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175263&highlight=forum+notification

Seems instant Forum notification is “not an option”. Geez, what a simple feature to add… are they just being lazy? Not like the code isn’t already there in the thread area.

Bugger… Stephen, is it possible to post unexpected major outages as an Announcement from now on, so we ALL get notification right away? A server going down would be something we need to know before clients start calling, I’m sure you can understand.

Dont’ want to create extra work for you tho… what do you think?

Or even a mailing list that people can subscribe to, to find out about important issues when they happen? Ie, the mailing lists that are built into HSphere

Is there such a thing as a mass IM? Like, could we all give you our IM IDs and when there’s an outtage you send us an IM message?

One way, like we’d have to expect not to be chatting back with you. But this would be fairly instantaneous. I for one have my IM client running whenever I’m at my PC.

Just a thought.
Tim

Ah sorry my bad.

I think Stephen’s hiding under the furniture… we’ve scared him off. :stuck_out_tongue:

No, I just can’t answer everything

Plus I am setting up all the snmp monitoring that seems to have gotten a bit behind on jodopulse today as well
