After so many problems with jodohost i received this email:
Following automated features which are not part of our offering, has been used by some of our customers:
Dedicated application pools
Stop gap domains
Third level domain
Third level domain (Mails under Host Name)
Above resources will be offered as an additional resource shortly. You have the option to either discontinue using the same or start paying from the date, we announce their pricing.
I have hundreds of domains like example.myhost.com and now jodohost tells me they will charge for this “shortly”. This was free when i sign up. Do you think the people can remove all this shortly? So what is next to charge 5$/month for email account?
You jodo tell us - stop using or pay and you didn’t tell anything about the price.
This is a gentle reminder from our team, to let you know that your account is using some resources, which have not been announced officially to used by our resellers / customers.
JodoHost reserves a right to charge for additional resources, which are not included in the hosting plans, brought by the user of hosting account.
You may ask your question and clarify any doubt regarding resources you are using and we are offering.
You may also, let us know how much time you need to remove the additional resource, if you are not agree to pay.
What exactly these resources are? - they use subdomain of my service domain. When you have something in your cp it is supposed to be used.
Tomorrow when Mr. Kumar decide to make additional money he will charge for subdomains used and for every mail send.
Also you want money but you don’t tell me the price - how can i make informed decition without knowing the price?
What about charging me 130$ for 1.3GB disk space and in the same time you refuse to give me bigger plan so you will continue to charge me with these insane rates, besause you know I can’t remove my clients immediately. You could get good dedicated server for 130$ month.
I agree about dedicated pools but to charge for third level domains - when you offered this free for years…
Nevermind it is my mistake to choose indian company.
What kind of post is this? Seriously man, we haven’t charged you anything for these, and we haven’t made any changes retroactive on old clients if we do make plan changes.
You have a bad streak showing through here. I haven’t quoted you to give you a chance to remove some totally inappropriate comments.
As for the $130 on disk space it is still being checked.
I didn’t tell that you charged me for third level domains. Yes i have many bad posts here but they was about windows servers - because there was real problems and because my clients was complaining. Now recently my clients are not complainig - and so do I / i moved many of them /. About the 130$ - they are not the problem if are one time. Now i am working night and day to meve my clients because next month I will have 3 Gb over usage and it makes 300$. Put yourself in my place -when the people are cutting expenses and we loose clients - i have to pay such charges.
I apologize for this. This is not serious.
But you have 30 servers or more on cluster1 with terrabytes of disk space - and i asked billing team for 5 -6 Gb disk space above my current plan and they refused. There would be no problem if they just make me bigger plan or sell me disk space but they say - no.
We never intend to hurt our customers with sudden changes in pricing policy. I will go over this with the team, but each domain (third level, stopgap) represents an overhead on our servers. We have been very lenient with the use of third levels and stopgaps, but sometimes they get really abused and represent significant overheads for us that makes us lose money.
We HAVE NOT announced a pricing policy yet, and not EVEN announced an effective date. We just want customers to be MORE aware that these resources COST us money, and at the worst represent an entire new website/domain (each entity) on the server.
I suggest you contact billing on this separately, and they will work something out for you.
Just curious, why would you charge for a subdomain if the client is within his account limits (bandwidth and space) even it is a site on its own? There are several subdomain usage that are quite useful - also from security poitn of view - like mysite.com, shop.mysite.com, forum.mysite.com.
We are not charging for subdomains, but the way thy are treated an lead to abuse, and if someone had 1800 subdomains it would all be on a server and possibly overload it, so it would be treated as an abuse situation.
When Jodo offer dedicated pools with payment - will it be possible for a client to get dedicated pool from his Hsphere cp? Also it will be very helpful of they can restart their pool. About third level domains - i counted mine and they are not so much - if the price is 0.5-1$ per domain I will maybe pay for my clients without charging them, but if the price is bigger i will pass the cost to them.
Honestly I don’t see it because of the way it is making them. It isn’t about limiting the choices it is about proper management. I only knew about adding dedicated app pool as a resource price to discourage people from using it because it doesn’t work in the way it should, and it makes some problems on the servers. Third level domains… I have no idea at all.
In case of resellers we would not like to charge for third level domain, and third level domain (mail under service domain) resources, till they are under disk space and traffic limit. But resources like Dedicated pool, is really a problem at they use excessive resources at CPU level and on shared servers; we cannot allow much.
I’m still a little confused. Can you explain more about this? Does this mean I need to limit subdomains/third level domains from now on? Or monitor their usage?
really nothing different than ever before. only one time have we have an issue with subdomains it was on the win7 server some years ago now. someone had 780 or so subdomains all using exactly the same codebase etc. it was not a very server friendly codebase and the metabase size had exploded and the server was working much worse.
Today I check and found out I have about 500 MB in deleted accounts, that is still counted from share which is not very fair. That would be like charging me for a bug in HSphere.
