Mail not working on client accounts after Domain propagation...

Hi all,

I’m afraid I am a little stumped at the moment trying to figure out why my clients’ email does not work. I just finished migrating all of our client sites two days ago, from our previous host to Jodo. Yesterday, I created the new dns entries at the various Registrars. All of the sites have seemed to propagate correctly as of a few hours ago. However, when trying to send mail to some “test” emails I setup for each client, they do not work!

I set them up the same way we had them setup on our previous host, since, everything seems to be setup that way… it has not changed. But, still nothing.

Also, when testing the email addresses on http://www.dnsstuff.com, they come back as “working”, but they refer to mail.ourdomain.com and not mail.theirdomain.com. Now because of this, I believe that the problem may exist with that fact. Because they reference the mail2 & mail3 servers, but they should just be resolving as mail.theirdomain.com.

Even though they pass the dnsstuff email test, we cannot receive or send email with these addresses, thus, my confusion???

Does anyone understand this? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Before I speak too soon, can you PM me one of these domains?

The DNS is good, it is just CNAMEs, and they are hitting the right server, but what exactly is the problem, any errors?

This is the error I get in Outlook, each time I try sending mail to one of the accounts:

There was a problem logging onto the mail server. Your User Name or Password was rejected. Server Response: ‘-ERR authorization failed’. (Account: ‘Test’, POP3 Server: ‘mail.myclient.com’, Error Number: 0x800ccc92).

Here’s how I set up the emails in Outlook:

Username: Full Address
Password: *****
POP3: mail.myclient.com
SMTP: mail.myclient.com
I checked off: My server requires authentication
and: Log on using
and then entered: Full Address
and the password.

All info matches what I setup in H-Sphere.

All of these addresses are setup exactly the same way on my other host, and they all work fine from there.

I have no clue why they don’t work here? ?(

I would recommend sending a ticket, but we will need some test login details to check.

When I run an email test on that address at dnsstuff, I get this:

mail3.ourdomain.com.10 204.14.107.174 [US]mail2.ourdomain.com.30 204.14.107.209 [US]

Step 1: Try connecting to the following mailserver:
mail3.ourdomain.com. - 204.14.107.174

Step 2: If unsuccessful in step 1, try connecting to the following mailserver:
mail2.ourdomain.com. - 204.14.107.209

Step 3: If still unsuccessful, queue the E-mail for later delivery.

Trying to connect to all mailservers:

mail3.ourdomain.com. - 204.14.107.174 [Successful connect: Got a good response [250 ok]]
mail2.ourdomain.com. - 204.14.107.209 [Successful connect: Got a good response [250 ok]]

Shouldn’t that test be referencing their mail domain?

Stephen,

I submitted a ticket as you suggested. Unfortunately, their answer was that it worked for them on their end. The only problem with that is, it still doesn’t work on my end. They provided me with a link to an Outlook Express Tutorial that they suggested I read.

Please, I am using Outlook 2000 and I have setup thousands of email accounts in the last 15 years. I know how to setup a simple email account. I need a concrete solution to this problem ASAP. We are about to cancel with our previous host today. We may not be able to do that if we can’t find a solution to this.

Do you have any other suggestions that will at least point me in the right direction? I will do all of the digging I can to find the problem if you just give me a clue as to what it might be.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Please delete my last response with my apologies. I am a little on edge at the moment.

Thanks :open_mouth:

Hi all,

I just wanted to set the record straight!

As anyone can see, we were having a few email problems last night and throughout the morning hours. Stephen, Deepak & Tanmaya kept in constant touch with us for several hours as we tried to pinpoint this problem. After some tests were conducted, it was discovered that the problem originated with our Outlook 2000 mail client program on one of our machines, and NOT on the server!

I was very much relieved to find this out, because my main concern was for our clients and their ability to send and receive mail.

We never did discover what the problem was with Outlook. However, before we had the chance to look into it deeper, it just suddenly started working! We never changed a thing! Mail just started flying in due to all of the test emails that had been sent! Now, we are really confused! ?(

I don?t believe I have ever seen a stranger thing! But the main thing is, JodoHost DID NOT cause this problem! It was on our end and I just wanted to make that clear for future readers of this post.

Thanks for all of the help guys!!!

Keep up the great work!!! :]
