Anyone else having problems sending mail out through webmail on mail4? Can’t seem to send email out (not even gmail.com)

Well I’m not sure if mail4 is my problem or not but I have been with jodo for nearly 12 months & email unreliability is the biggest problem they have.
So much so that I will have to move to a new host unfortunately compounded by the fact that I’ve put in a ticket regarding an email problem ADQ-15292-506 that has taken jodo over 48 hrs to respond to me.
After 24 hrs I contacted live help to further explain the problem & find out the delay. Finally I got some crappy answer that i had already explained in the ticket authentification was in place.
Also some of my customers aren’t paying thier bills on time…why? because they are not recieving email notifications from my reseller account.
Without reliable email it does not matter how great the hosting is.
Well that’s not good, that explains why I haven’t seen emails from the forums either. Thought it was just wierd that I didn’t but makes sense now that I have someone else seeing it with their domain.
I have issued a ticket, but pages are erroring all over the place whever I try to send via cdosys. Has just started, and whilst I probably should have written error handling on each page, it is simple add to Db and send email receipts and notifications, and javascripts validate user input… All code has been water tight in operation for months, but this, what appears to be some kind of smtp issue, has just sprung up. Maybe related??
We have three dedicated mail servers. My guess, serving over 100,000 mailboxes. I am not aware of any mail server issues in last few months. We did have 2-3 issues but that was few months ago and they were handled swiftly.
I will go over with Tanmaya our Linux Manager in few hours from now to check why tickets took so long to answer. Meanwhile support is looking in your specific issues.
Mike,
The CDOSYS issues are unrelated totally, there was a spammer on the server and the SMTP service was disabled on the local server while finding the tricky spammer.
CDOSYS still would have worked if you had used the external mailservers with SMTP Auth, which is the preferred method, as it has reverse DNS setup.
As for the forum mail, I get them each night on my gmail account from here, the same thing applies however about reverse DNS.
To be 100% honest, many hsphere hosts are having issues with mail becasue of the qmail system being 3 years old and in an unmaintained state for that whole time, the only patches are addons that are “unofficial” and really just hackjobs to make things work.
My suggestion would be to get on Psofts case about this as end users:
http://forum.psoft.net/index.php
Fill up some thread with suggestions to implement a modern mail server that is supported and maybe it will help. They don’t listen to us well as hosts, there are many threads in the customer only section regarding the lack of postfix, exim, or other MTA support.
hsphere suports so much else, but it lacking greatly in the mail server options department.

This is a separate issue related to the email configuration of vBulletin. I havent been receiving emails either

cca & bodybrilliantmike, you are complaining about web script mailing issues, not your general emailing issues. Sometimes, when sending a large number of emails out from your webscripts, they can get delayed due to spamming by another customer on that web server. 2 days ago, one customer was spamming on win13, accumalating 200MB in email logs.. Spamming can hold up email delivery.. This happens occasionally but does happen.
However the reliability of our mailing servers is different, and we have been maintaining near 100% reliability on our 3 mail servers.. If you send receive email via pop3/smtp using your email client.. you are connecting directly to our mail server. Webmail can occasionally have problems.. and the problem twoolums is reporting is being checked out. We have a mass-mailing restriction on our mail servers to ensure that spamming doesnt effect email delivery

Any ideas on what it is? Is it something I am doing wrong? I haven’t been recieving for a couple weeks now.

Thanks for looking into it and I look forward to getting this resolved. It used to be ok when I first signed up but recently stopped working correctly.
Note this isn’t just affecting webmail, emails won’t forward as setup for the email account and sometimes emails won’t even reach the account. (Just trying to give more detail to help)
We’ll have it resolved. Sometimes we need to depend on PSOFT to get issues with certain aspects of their software resolved.
cca, you are complaining about the fact that emails to aol are being delayed.. for one specific user. All other emails are not having issues according to you. On this basis, you are calling our email systems unreliable. There are n number of reasons for this, and we are investigating
I appreciate finally recieving some meaningful feedback on my ticket. The Aol issue is not new with JH.
To give example of unreliability, a customer whose account is due/overdue is automatically sent an email from h-sphere informing them of this & in my case they recieve 3 notifications before suspension warning. My customers are informing me that they are not recieving these emails.
As far as webscripts are concered I have a site that records messages in the database that are sent via the contact form.
I can see that a message was sent because it is recorded in the db, but sometimes(not all the time) the message does not arrive in the inbox.
Whats mentioned are my sites i can roll with the punches with. I could not guess how many times this has happened.
But my customers expect emails to be sent & arrive as they are paying for that service.
Regarding HSphere email non-delivery. Non-delivery can be from the customer’s end too. Many times, automated hsphere emails are filtered for spam at the customer’s end. The emails are sent to the billing email address of the customer, not thee general contact email address. Many times the customer isn’t aware of this and checks only his general contact email address
Regarding emailing from web scripts, once again non-delivery can be from the other end. Email delivery via web scripts can never be 100% reliable. The host could always reject/filter it and you wouldn’t receive a return email stating so. Hence, its a good idea to ensure users can rerequest web emails if they haven’t been delivered. Any good webscript allows users to do so
I am aware of both 1 & 2 of your reply. For this reason I ask billing customers to add our address to their list of contacts. What I am saying to you is the emails are not arriving, bulk folder or anywhere else

This is exactly what I am seeing. Any mails from your system are not arriving. They came through while you where looking into the issue but we are back to the same point after you said it was fixed. The mail will arrive to your system just doesn’t like to leave in my case.
cca - You said “authentication” is in place, but the bounce posted in ticket says it is not. If your clients are not getting email notifications from control panel, please create a ticket and i will look into it. Maybe it can be just a content rejection by the spam filter at the destination mailserver. I dont see anything that shows the email service is unreliable. OK there are certain things that are not user-friendly, but they help stop spam.
twoolums - I am looking into your ticket and will give an update soon.
twoolums - I created a test box and the forward worked fine(infact instant) for me to my gmail account. The spammer on Win13 tried to spam from this mailserver as well and i just corrected that a while back. So maybe this caused the delay in your email. Can you please update me with the current status of your problem.

I replied to the ticket and it is running a ton better now. I also sent a header to you from one of the emails that finally got here. Thanks for looking into it for me.

Yes thats right, it over 72 & that was already stated in the ticket, I then went on to say:
client has set email scripts to uses cdosys & authentification but says emails to aol are still not arriving & bouncing
If your clients are not getting email notifications from control panel, please create a ticket and i will look into it.

I am now finding out that my billing reminder notifications from my reseller account to my customers are not being sent but i guess i’ll have to wait another 48 hrs for some crappy response like "submit a seperate ticket.

Yes I do understand about spam filters. Tanmaya you have always been a first class help as have many of the jodo staff Yash included. I dont expect the email system to be perfect & understand its vulnerabilities no matter who the host is but in my experience here I have learnt not to rely on the emails.
After 48 hrs of waiting for my first reply to the ticket & in the mean time a customer asking for my help the first response I got was poor. The 2nd response should have came first.
