You guys are killing me! I don’t know who the heck gave the ok to migrate mail servers during the day time, but come on. That should be common sense to NOT migrate during peak usage for the customer, which is during the day time. I realize you guys are trying to complete this as quickly as possible, but man with all these outages and slow sites, and now you’re adding on moving mail servers when customers are trying to work. Good grief, it’ll be a small miracle if we don’t lose a bunch of customers over this migration, and I’m sure other resellers are feeling the same.. Can you please stop migrating stuff during the day? I’m a systems engineer myself, so I know how much of a pain in the ass it is to do work off-hours, but to keep customers happy, that’s what our jobs require us to do.
As if it isn’t bad enough that you guys are moving servers in the middle of the freaking day, when I ask support how long it’ll be down, they respond with 'check it after 5-6 hours and all will be fine", as if that is an acceptable response, or an acceptable amount of down time on a planned migration.. This is just getting to be simply ridiculous the lack of good customer service… If I did this at my regular job, I’d be fired in a heart beat, rightfully so.. Come on guys, you should be able to be better than this!
No server took 5-6 hours to move, most were down for 30-40 minutes and we rally didn’t have a choice on timeframe, it had to be during the day due to network filters and changes required for BGP announcement changes.
Everything on Hsphere is now live from Dallas and direct, not routed via Waco tunnel, the worst is behind us, and looking up and forward from now on.
We would much prefer to work in the night time, as that’s our India office day, but it isn’t isn’t an option when the upsteam staffs best people that can rectify any issues that may come up are primary in the daytime.
Stephen, I appreciate all the work you do, and I’m not trying to put that down. Trust me, I know how hard cutovers are, I’ve done many myself..
However, the 5-6 hours is the response the jodohost tech gave me via live chat. That was a quote directly from that person.
I also understand about having the best people available, but when you schedule cutovers like this, you work with them to have them available after hours. Doing this cut in the middle of the day is just plain wrong. Especially after the weeks worth of very poorly performing websites, if they were responding at all.. My customers lost a lot of business over the past few weeks, and this was just salt in the wound. It should have been planned better, with cuts happening at night only, bottom line. We had to spend countless hours speaking with customers, working to get their sites up, get their email working (which is still a life blood to many small businesses), and the responses we got from tech support were just canned BS responses of “check it now” or “check it in a few hours, all will be fine”..
I just sincerely hope the new datacenter, new network, and new servers live up to the hype.. As I’ve heard that story before with the control panel issues and other site issues that you are aware of, that still aren’t fixed..
You should see performance already greatly improved with the change over. We have just as many clients in India and Asia as in the US, their night is our day, your day their night, so we have no winning way to do this. In the last few years there’s not even a traffic drop through the day like there once was due to the global nature of the business.
there is truly no better, or worse time from a usage perspective to do the changes in this regard, there is no Us centric traffic or usage pattern.
