How can I setup things up that when I type in mail.(mydomain).com it defaults to an email client (Horde, Squirrelmail, SQWebMail) of my choice?

No, the mail page is a shared global template. You could however make a “webmail.domain.com” and customize it however you wish, and direct webmail users there.
are there any other apps we can use for email, perhaps one with more customizable appearance?
nevermind… like 2 posts back there is “customizing web mail” or something.. ha

sure, you can install a custom “nutsmail” Squirrelmail skin, and install it on your own domain.

There is a FREE webmail based on PHP.
I used that years ago, it is pretty good but not very current now. It would be nice for someone or some group to pick it up and maintain it a bit.
I am also interested in a custom webmail setup, how would i implement a nuts mail skin? Would i have to install a copy of squirrelmail?. :]
If you wanted nutsmail, you could download their package(It includes everything needed from what I read), and setup a subdomain like webmail.yourservicedomain.com and run it from there.
