Major Backup/Restor Problems - BEWARE!

This is a just a general warning to anyone out there who might need to rely on Jodohost restoring a backup.

I had a client who needed to restore the most recent backup of their MySQL database. I asked Jodohost to do this.

After an hour or so they responded by checking what needed to be restored. Fair enough. I answered immediately telling them.

Some 14 hours later the database was still not back. I checked in and was told they had restored the previous backup which was patently not true.

When I complained they said they would look into it. That was some 5 hours ago.

It is now over 24 hours since I first asked for a restoration and there’s not a sign of anything having been done.

Fortunately I had an old backup which I put into a seperate database and the site is working off that. We are, however, still waiting for the restoration of the database which I asked for. How long will we wait? Days? Months?

[COLOR=“Red”]The moral of this story is simple: you cannot rely on Jodohost to restore a database backup so make sure to backup off server yourself and don’t trust anyone else to do it for you!

We restore MANY backups every day, at no charge, and generally with no hassles.

However as it is always said your own backups are the best

If you can give a ticket ID Tanmaya can check it out as well.

So we can’t rely on JH then?!

To be frank that’s not the kind of answer I was hoping for!

The ticket is [JH #ITU-10086-425] and, by the way, it’s 3 hours since I started this thread and still no word from support so I guess they’ve all gone home for the day or something.

arathra,

We can take backups and backups and backups of backups, and we can restore them, but there is always a chance of an issue. That is why you should always have your OWN backups too.
Even the best softwares and systems have problems sometimes.

No one has ‘gone home for the day’ this is not a ticket desk, but a community support forum.
I even keep backups of my own databases and files on my local PC just so I have them, and I know how often we restore backups 100% successfully, I know how many times we’ve had clients thank us many times due to restoring a database. I know how few times there are problems as well

Just so you know, your DB WAS restored from backups but there was an issue even in the DB at the point of the backup, so it is being restored to an older backup now.
