A few websites using mssql11 as back end are noticing timeouts.
This is an abuse issue, caused a brute force attack against built-in MS-SQL users. We are looking further into the problem and will post an update soon.
We have blocked two subnets. If you access MS-SQL server from your local computer and can’t access it any more, please scan your computer(s) with updated anti-virus/anti-spy software and then submit a block removal request.
We have managed to control the problem. Server is being monitored for any further abuse. Websites using this DB server are responding fine now.
Problem has re-surfaced. 500+ connections are there from a single web server of ours. We are trying to trace this abusive user.
There is no obvious abuse going on. We suspected the problem to be related to a known multi-core CPU sync problem, but the fix doesn’t seems to have helped.
We are rebooting mssql11 now.
Server and SQL service is up now. We are monitoring from here.
Server has been responding fine since the reboot.
