MX records, domains and pointing

Can anyone either step me through or point me to an idiot’s guide on how to have the email for a domain point to a different server than the hosting? I believe that it’s just the MX record that needs to be set, but I’m not certain.

Any help is appreciated.

From your end-user account, click on the domain.. Next click on Edit DNS and from that screen, you can insert an MX record
