My Customers Email is Blacklisted!

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

removing catchall will help more than anything. We don’t recommend ANYONE use a catchall, in fact even with mailwise or postini if you have a catchall you will be in for disaster. In fact the very nature of a catchall means the mailer will capture the spam and not bounce it therefore making you big a bigger target by thinking all the addresses they are sending to are legit. it SHOULD bounce and then it will clog their mail server back up with bounce messages as well, or whoever they joe-jobbed :frowning:

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

Schooner,

I would recommend making email alias’s for any names you may get mail at that you are expecting, if you have a catchall for this purpose you will not get any legit mail on the addresses other than spam. so if you want [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] to all really be one address, use an alias, not a catchall that will make [email protected] work to send to that address as well.

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

The issue is with no catchall is requiring to setup all email addresses you may use for various projects and rolls. You would need to setup each account and forward it would you not, is there anyway to do a single mass list for catchalls that only include the specified addresses?

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

You guys think this is a JodoHost thing.
It is absolutely not. I am seeiing people complain across the board against the rise in spam.

as for the spam listing… these are small blacklists and we will continue to get listed at times with small private blacklists.. Report, we act on it. SpamCOP and the major ones we proactively track.

There are thousands of blacklists out there, more that we as a host can track.
I see a couple of threads on the PSOFT forum about it alone

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

I’m well aware it is not jsut Jodohost, but tell that to my clients. Spam and blacklists are pising them off.

PS Yash - Check your PM, I’m still waiting to here on my promised refund from months ago and have not seen action on this yet. I’ve emailed you and PMed you repeated times for months now and emailed billing just this week and no one seems to reply on this issue. X(

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

Your clients need to understand they do not pay their web hosts to install commercial spam cleaning software.. We cannot do MUCH about this issue. it is not built into the business models of us or 99.9% of hosts unless they start charging per mail box. I’d love to install Norton BrightStar, got a quote.. I’m ready to put $10,000 on the table but its going to cost us per mail box for every mail box we have on the system. If we could pay licensing per server, all my issues would be solved. But it can’t, and they will not modify their licensing models to suit us

SpamAssasin can’t do any better. I signed a contract with MailWise, they are building a solution for us but need 7 to 10 days as already posted

As for blacklists, we are dealing with them. We ensure we are not on the major ones, we will get listed occasionally on smaller ones and we can only deal with them on a case by case basis.

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

I agree Yash, I’m just passing along what the client say and feel, hence why I’m moving out of hosting, its too much headache these days. Web is fine but email is just a headache to deal with.

The blacklists are what really get them worried and upset.

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

I am working on a solution to deliver clean email, to all our clients. I am NOT sitting on this issue.

We have solved every issue to hit JodoHost till date, and this will be no exception. I’ve been talking to a large number of companies and open source developers for the most effective spam solution we can implement, whatever the price. But its not hard.

with blacklists.. the list we got listed on is a very very small list. Your’s is the only complaint so far out of over 18,000+ end users on the system. SpamCop for example is large, and we work to keep ourselves out of the large lists. Usually that means the small lists shouldn’t block us. when they do, we try acting as soon as we get a report.

As stephen said, the fundamental issue here is that spam hitting forwards is hitting other ISPs, causing us to be perceived as the source of spam hence blacklisted

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

Also, tanmaya put spamassasin at max on mail3 and mail5 two days ago.. enabling everything spamassasin has.

Any reduction of spam on these two servers noticed by customers?

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

Back to the possible short-term solutions. I, for one, would like more information on the option of turning of FW relay service. Question – would this mean that aliases used would not work? So, if I have an email like [email protected] and have it set to go to [email protected] and [email protected], would that be prohibited?
Or,maybe someone could just explain what exactly a Forwardind Service is (which supossedly is the problem…).

I, too, have very upset clients… For me, hosting is a side gig – I offer hosting to clients that we do web design and tech solutions for, just so we can be a one-stop-shop.

Anyway, I want to be able to tell my clients that the problem will soon be solved permanently. Otherwise, I have no choice but to take my clients elsewhere… They are too valuable to me.

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

timruns,

Aliases and forwards are totally different.

Forward is hosted on our servers, and sent to destination elsewhere.

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

With my clients, it seems the primary cause is via Comcast ISP (UCDavis appears to likely use Comcast).

So, in Jodo’s defense, feel free to google the following:
mail blacklisted comcast

I also showed that to one of my more irate clients, as well as a link to:
http://www.mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx?IP=64.187.103.252

showing that mail5 is not on “major” blacklists.

We still need the problem fixed, but it does take a small amount of anxiety from me…

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

Yes interesting stuff there on google results, including some blacklist removes that were handled in 2004 and now again black listed in 2006 with seemingly no way to remove it now.

Here is a good link from it:

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

This sort of explains the forward issue and why Jodo gets blocked for no real reason…

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

OK – this is getting tiring, but I think it is important for all our clients. I have been reading a lot about other people’s issues on this for various ISP (not just Comcast, but also AOL & Roadrunner at least…).

Here is what AOL suggests:
http://postmaster.aol.com/faq/forwarding.html

So, one question to JODO:

  1. Can forwards go on a seperate IP (I think HSPHERE would have to support that)?

I think that would solve 99% of these problems.

Re: Spam blacklisted again??

timrums, we’ve been trying to get forwards go from a separate IP for over a year

We have been asking PSOFT to continually implement a qmail mod that can make this possible as well.

Really, the only effective solution is going to be better filtering of email. And we are working on that.

We will continue to work with Comcast and ensure our IPs are not listed. If we do get listed, we do request you to put in a ticket. We are looking for a permanent solution. There are a ton of hosts right now with comcast listing issues.

That is correct. As I’ve said, and always said.. your email is going to be received perfectly by 99.99% of all email servers. We are actively monitoring major spamlists. We’ve not had a spamcop list in a long time now (you were the last to complain)

These small lists and private ISPs are an issue.. and we are pursuing this

Hi,

I received this from one of my web clients this morning. This same client has been telling me for weeks that several of their emails are not getting to their customers. After trying several things on my end to try and find the problem, they finally decided to send me proof of it today. This is the contents of a Mailer Daemon email they received from the mail3 server today:

I got one of those Mailer deamon things and it left this link: Discovery Hub - News & Technology followed by this statement : Connected to 204.127.198.26 but sender was rejected. Remote host said: 550 64.187.103.252 blocked by ldap:ou=rblmx,dc=comcast,dc=net → BL004 Blocked for spam.

Please help me get these straightened out. This will be the second client I will have lost in a week due to this same problem! Everyone keeps telling me that they never had these problems when they were with their previous hosts!

I need to find a solution to this fast! I have gotten several complaints from clients in the last (3) months about “not being able to send mail” All of this is happening on mail3!

Please help!:frowning:

Please see the network and server issues forum, there is extensive discussion ont his there. And yes, comcast is blocking MANY people as pointed out in that thread.

Hi Stephen,

I checked out that other forum and read what everyone was saying. More importantly, when I went to that suggested site to see if my email IP’s are blacklisted, I made a very interesting discovery!

When I type in my customer’s Domain names it references mail servers 2 & 3. Most of my customer’s Domains including my own company are using those. I have had no problems what-so-ever on those.

When I type in my current customer who is complaining about a problem, it references mail servers 2 & 5! I am having a problem currently with a customer using these!

What is the significance with this???
