Dang it… when I first signed up with Jodo my ping rates were 30ms to 50ms all the time.
Now that Jodo has moved to the new datacenter my route goes from COX.NET to VERIO.NET to PNAP.NET to Jodo.
This is the second time this week that verio.net has started causing the ping rate to jump up to over 100ms (it was over 200ms the other day). Using NeoTrace I can see they are the problem once again. As soon as it leaves COX.NET it goes from 23ms to over 100ms. The same thing happens when I use a computer that is on the ADELPHIA.NET network.
Before the move to the new Data Center I never got over 50ms. Now I am regularly 60ms to 70ms. This should not be the case and it is rather disappointing.
My other host… I end up routing through ABOVE.NET and it stays right at 40ms to 50ms. I don’t know what I routed through when JODO was at the old center. I should have saved some stats before the move.
Oh man… I hope and pray the problems are temporary and the VERIO.NET will not become my downfall!!!

Can you please download this and run it for about 20 minutes, and send the results to me, or post here?

I’ll download it and do some tests with it. Right now things are looking good. I use NeoTrace regularly and I will also run this and create some save HTML reports that I can make available as well.
Thanks

Ok… like I said things are running somewhat smooth right now… at least not too bad, but not where things use to be. Here is the trace from WinMTR. I am doing one to my other host as a comparison.

Sorry… I couldn’t get it too line up correctly. You should be able to copy and dump in Notepad.
Thoughts on how this one looks? Like I said this is WAY better then it was. And when I was testing before I was using 32 bytes where this is using 64 bytes so I am sure if I had tested with 64 bytes during the bad moments it would have been worse.
Average to the server is 55ms, that doesn’t look bad.
However, since Level3 and Cogent had their little spat, Verio has been carrying more total internet traffic, and has had more latency because of that.
Overall latency doesn’t matter in hosting(does for gameservers however), and should not cause any problems, but if you can provide these when there are problems we can send to Internap and they can help here as well.

Will do… it has been doing badly at night time… I guess when everyone is at home nailing the web. Will get them as soon as I can.

Hello Greg,
I just wanted to point a few things out after doing some research, this likely would have happened anywhere, Verio seems to be carrying more traffic in recent days, as Level3 and Cogent have/had an ongoing spat, many places are still someone routing around them and verio, sprintlink (is having its own problems), and other carriers have been picking up some slack in routing. this causes an overall load at some points that can’t be avoided until things have stabilized again.
Level3 is threatening to drop Cogent peering again in November, we will see what happens then, we are not using Cogent anywhere in the mix right now, but many cable/dsl providers rely heavily upon it. Spats like this affect the whole market, not just the two carriers in question.

I was wondering how that spat may effect verio.net. Not certain how much load they are picking up, but it has somewhat calmed down. At least I haven’t noticed any more large lags. Occasionally I notice the CP is slow loading, but I am not sure if that is network related or if something else could be effecting that.
