new server for mail1

as per this thead

are we running on it right now?

thanks

yes we are

I hope something is being done with the spam on mail1, mail3 and mail5 also. One client keeps getting over 1200-1500 all spam on mail1 in less then 5 days. He is not happy, and i am trying to deal with him.

WebD,

We have replied to you MANY MANY times on this. We supply SpamAssassin, we are working to provide some additional options but the direct relation of spam to how much you get depends on how much your address is out there on spammers listes, catchall mailboxes for domains, and the sheer amount of spam they get. If your client really wants full spam control suggest to them something like spambayes and they can control everything on their side for filtering. Spammers are evil, they change their methods daily. They get through the best filters, I get over 1500 spam a day at gmail, I get 6-8 on servers here with my addresses.

That said, we will be working to optimise spamassasin’s spam filters over the next 2 days.. Seems mail1 is mostly under control with the upgrade

I don’t understand how any knowledgeable web professional can blame their host on the amount of spam they or their clients receive. That’s like blaming the mailman for the amount of junkmail you get in your home mailbox.

As Stephen says, spammers are evil. They are the scum of the earth, the lowest life form deserving of any foul thing that can happen to them. Unfortunately, like most foul little critters, they adapt easily and manage to stay just ahead of the anti-spam technology. It’s just a fact of internet life that if you have an email account, eventually you will get spam!

I have conducted tests in the past, where I had an unused domain name and created an email account, something so obscure it wouldn’t be guessed by anyone (38.wxj7.zisnrtg @ obscuredomain dot com), then never used it for anything. Just a mailbox nobody should ever know about, on a domain that had nothing - no website, no forms, nothing. Within 6 weeks I started receiving spam to that mailbox.

When I changed from Outlook to Thunderbird, it really helped a lot. The spam filters in T-Bird are not perfect, but they sure catch a good percentage of it. And it has been pointed out that anyone needing stronger filtering has several different software titles to choose from, all they have to do is buy them and use them!

I have done the same thing with a whois protected domain, and it started forwarding the email to me via the whois forward :frowning:

Of course its not Jodo’s fault, but I think more measures need to be taken to slow this spam down, and when we report the same subjects for over 2-3 weeks and its still coming in, why isn’t measures taken to stop these E-Mails. One word has been brought up several times from different people and still coming in.

One of my clients got over 1200 ALL SPAM in 4 days. If spam assassian don’t do the job GET RID of it and use something else. I know GMail,Yahoo etc. get spam and heavy, but we are a host and need to get control of this.

I’ve been using the same Yahoo and Hotmail account for over 5 years and the spam is not bad. I also forward my E-Mails to another address and every spam I get here is stopped before I get it their. So this is what I don’t understand why we don’t have a better control. What are these other companies using to have this better control??

I have looked at some of the different mail servers and alot of the same spam E-Mails are coming in on all servers. If certain spam E-mails were different on different servers, I would say the spammers are attacking domains not the servers.

I have also looked around at other Hosting forums, and yes spam is bad all around. Some of the other companies have a better control and some worst, reading some of their fourms.

Some of my clients are complaining and where they came from they are telling me it was not this bad. I know JOdo said they are going to try some new things we will see what happens. Just saying how I feel.
