No space left on device on web7.m****here.biz

Hi,

I have a domain which uses php to generate xml pages to be displayed to the visitor. These xml files are re-generated every minute triggered from an external upload.

When the xml gets regenerated it encounters a disk space full issue and gets truncated to zero bytes. Over the next few minutes all the xml files get truncated to zero bytes. So even though the website is up, there is nothing to display.

This has happened thrice over the past year and twice in the last four weeks. Every time the customer alerts me (the reseller) and then I have to get to you guys on livesupport and then get it resolved.

I am told that the logs have caused the issue and they clear the logs, thereby creating space. But I wonder how this can happen repeatedly without your doing anything to prevent it.

Could you please take this more seriously and ensure that this does not happen again.

I dont have a domain, so I don’t know the background on this but is it any chance the logs on your site filling the quota making it happen?

I see such on windows a couple times a month.

Hi Stephen,

The domain is midasforex.com and I faced the issue just a couple of hours back. I don’t think it has anything to do with the logs of this domain as I am nowhere near my allocated disk quota.

While I can understand this happening occasionally, I am worried that you don’t seem to have any system in place to be alerted of the problem as it occurs or even just before it occurs. While I keep getting email alerts as soon as I cross 80% of disk space utilisation in my VPS account, I am wondering why you do not have such internal alerts.

obound,

I am not sure you realize how fast logs can grow

there is little chance for warning when you can have logs of 25GB come in a matter of minutes. There are active cases today where on windows servers in asp.net temporary files I can see the temporary files balloon by over 5GB in a matter of 12 seconds, if they files stay there and the next one balloons you can look at a swing from multiple GB free to no free in a matter of 30 seconds.

DDoS attack logs, wow even in minimal logging as low as you can get, it can be quite a large amount of logs every minute for as long as it continues.

This also happen to one of my accouts last night same error same server, the ftp quoto got changed somehow to 0 and I was unable to change it, support had to do it. What happen maybe?

If not web7, your issue may be different. Let me know your ticket# so I can check with techs who handled it for you.

Well, I got used to this. My users report same problems on Linux servers, but Jodo Live Support claims that there is plenty of space on disks. What can I do, but pull my hair… and wait
