Hey everyone,
I had a customer that is using osCommerce as his shopping cart that had an order go missing after their customer made payment through paypal (I believe he’s using the IPN Web Payments method and not gateway). Has anyone run into this on JodoHost? I did some searches on the web and found that this is an issue such that if the IPN isn’t returned to the osCommerce module, it doesn’t maintain the order and it is essentially lost. I haven’t found a good way around it so far and was hoping someone here might have some ideas.
Thanks,
-Ben
So are there any errors given or what exactly happens?
No errors. The customer looks to have left the site to pay for the products via IPN on PayPal, and never came back to the site and it apparently lost the order then.
hrm, is it an implementation matter on oscommerce, or a server issue? Is there any page you have found with more details on this? Maybe oscommerce forums or something.
I am willing to offer some ideas, suggestions, workaround but I’d need a technically sound description of the matter in full.

And that appears to be what’s happening on this customer’s site. His customers aren’t hitting the “return to merchant” to verify the order as complete.
have they tried the paypal ipn contribution there?
We haven’t tried anything. We didn’t want to try something that wouldn’t work if we had someone else on JH that has already run into this issue and had a fix for it (why reinvent the wheel?)
the only thing I’ve done is get the shopping cart contents for the customer so he knows what to ship out. But I haven’t tried anything further until I know what should/could be done. My other guess would be if they used the PayPal gateway account instead of web payments (IPN), they wouldn’t run into this issue.
yes if you don’t want to do the contributed plugin, it may be best to move away from IPN, it seems to be a rather big problem on creloaded, oscommerce, xcart and others, just the spinoffs are dealing with it better by not deleting the visible entry!
thats pretty wild there.
