Out of Memory

Hello,

My ASP.NET users are reporting that they are lately receiving the following error intermitently:

Exception of type System.OutOfMemoryException was thrown

Is there any problem with the memory of the server?

Thanks

Please open a ticket with the domain name.

This is most likely on Win5, where the error has been throwing a bit recently, this was common a long time ago, and has cropped up again in the last 3 days, it typically fixes iself but sometimes takes longer than other times to detect this.

I am working to catch the .net script that is causing the memory exception, as the server and asp.net has been stable for a very long time before this started happening again.

No there is no memory issue, it is an asp.net issue.

Hello,

Your helper Yogendra does not seem to know about this problem. Could you please look into this issue and fix the problem? My ticket is #GMN-54222-689. My users are complaining about this.

Thanks

I have worked on this many times, there is obviously someone’s code that has a memory leak that is being quite elusive, I would highly recommend starting a server move if you need .net very much, I worked on this 3 hours tonight, and it should be better, but it will proably still happen until I find the user causing the issues.

The problem with windows 2000, is I really can not isolate a suspect site to itself like I can with 2003 when it comes to .NET.

Same error is occurring on Win 8 too - sent in a ticket - problem still there intermittently. The site uses .net version 1.1 and doesn’t have any bad code in it. Not a major problem, just irritating to get the error messages.

I can confirm we have reports of outofmemory issues on both Win5 and Win8, over the last couple of days.

We are working to resolve both of them. What happens is that some customer runs a script that doesn’t properly delete objects from memory and that keeps accumulating till the entire asp.net worker process starts crashing. We have scheduled proactive resets on the asp.net worker process but that isnt helping as it seems these scripts are very suddently shooting up mem usage.

I am currently watching 2 sites on Win5 with 250MB + ram utilisations each

Partof the win8 issue was actually my fault, as I moved too many domains using .net to one app pool, and it started hitting the processmodel ram limits. I have moved some sites out and it should be resolved now.

Win 8 - so far so good - Merry Christmas!
