Hi guys,
I would like to setup a reseller account with planetreseller who allow me to specifiy my own nameservers instead of using their defaults. However, if I was to do so, I also want my clients to see a customised parked page if the client doesn’t select hosting as well, is this possible with jodohost, and of not how else could I set this up?

parked page prehaps?

Looked at the control panel fo my primary domain registrar and I can only set the ip address of the nameserver, I can’t add additional records, such as an A record.
I guess the jodohost nameservers would have to be configured to show a parked page if an h-sphere account doesn’t exist for that domain but I assume this would redirect to jodohost because being a reseller I think my nameservers are mapped to your nameserver IP’s.
I do like your idea of using dedicated ip’s. Instead of mapping my nameservers to the IP of your nameservers, Could your servers be configured to recreate my nameservers with dedicated IP’s and then have any http request forwarded to a page on my primary website?
If I’m not making sense let me know.

If you have a reseller account, you get your own DNS IPs that you can use. Then you can create unlimited DNS zones under your administrative account. Set up a single website with dedicated IP and create custom A records for each DNS zone pointing to that IP.
You could vary the content of the website based on the used hostname through scripting.

That sounds absolutely brilliant, and if I can get it to work should do everything I need. But, can I beg some more help from you. In cp, I have two options DNS Manager or Server Aliases.
I already have my primary domain setup as a DNS zone, and of course all my server aliases are setup as per normal, but I can’t see anywhere to change the A record for my ns3 or ns4 where I could point them to a website with dedicated IP. In fact, an http request to my ns3 and ns4 brings up the jodohost web utilities page. If I could change this A record I would be deliriously happy.
Thinking it through, would I delete the existing A record for my ns3 and ns4 in server aliases and then create a new one pointing to the custom website?

Seems pretty easy, but complex when you start considering control panels.
So you wouldn’t recommend deleting the existing A record on the ns3 and ns4 and replacing them with the dedicated ip website mentioned by SubSpace?
I would have thought simply changing the A record would have no effect on the CP or DNS, and I would leave all other aliases pointing to the correct locations.
you should be able to create the Custom A Records for ns3, ns4
and set the ip/data type (last cell within the add record line ) to the ip of the dedcated ip address you are using,
that way anyone with those records will be directed to that IP Address that holds the parked page
im not to sure on that method but i think its ok

I’ve just checked a domain that points to my nameservers but doesn’t have an H-sphere account, and unfortunately it doesn’t bring up the web utilities page like an http request to ns3 or ns4 does. Infact it fails with the message ‘website not found’.
So I don’t know where I stand now. Somehow the nameserver needs to be told about the new domain, and then if an h-sphere account doesn’t exist, the request needs to be redirected to a separate page. This doesn’t sound like something that can be done within the administrator CP.
I guess the question now is this. How do other resellers sell domains through other registrars, and also use their own branded nameservers, and also create custom parked pages? I’ll listen to any suggestion.
I would not recommend using ns3/4, as we will be adding a real ns3/4 here in the coming weeks.

No, they work just like the current DNS, we just need to add two more, nothing will change, just apossible name conflict.
