Possible breach of Reseller annonomity

the whois guard would be pefect.

That’s what I am recommending. WhoisGuard or something like that would be perfect.

WhoisGuard doesn’t protect resellers. Anybody can discover who the real provider is from the name servers if the IPs are shared.

Yeah. I’m just referring to the WHOIS Info i.e. Registrant, Admin, Tech info.

There is always a way to find out anything you want now days. But, this is a basic thing to look at.

Any news on this?

Look at it, has a name, there has to be legit CONTACTABLE info or the domain can be pulled for abuse, what else are we to do?

You can always use Privacy Protection which most of the domain registrar’s offer. e.g. WhoisGuard of Namecheap.

That way you have legit info in whois and you protect the actual whois data as well.

This does not work with ARIN we are already taking some heat over our IP ranges whois info as we try to get a new allocation of IPs :frowning:

ARIN?

I guess IP WHOIS and Domain WHOIS are two different things.

I had raised the same point, but i think jodo host is not much keen to make they anonymous as much as they can.

i do agree, you cant make it impossible to find actual host, but you can make it difficult to find.

Hey Virtual,

Even I’ve got the same feeling. They are not keen enough to make themselves as Anonymous as possible.

Using a WhoisGuard is a very primarly thing but, it’s not being done and I don’t know why.

You can see how old this thread is and yet nothing has been done.

It’s sad to see this attitude by such a Good Host otherwise.

I’m very curious by this thread, and it raises a couple of questions.

  1. Are your customers actually technologically adept enough to find the information? If so, why are they bothering going to you for web hosting? Most likely, if they’re savvy enough to find that info, they’re savvy enough to do hosting themselves or find the places that give everything away at rock-bottom pricing cuz they can do everything themselves.

  2. Do you feel you have to completely hide the fact that you are reselling a service? Why? Realize that most businesses are reselling something: Gas stations, shopping centers, etc. They buy service/products, and in-turn resell them to the end-user at a mark-up. They are able to do this by offering good service to their customers. Otherwise, consumers could buy wholesale themselves and take on the “headaches” that may come up with getting things in this manner.

For my business, 90% of my customers don’t know tech enough to do this stuff, so they pay me to take care of it for them. They get great value for their money. The other 10% could be technical enough to do it, but don’t have the business education behind it to do it themselves, or they just don’t want any “headaches” or challenges, and they get great value for what they pay me to do. I do not hide the fact that I am a reseller, if any of my customers ask. It just isn’t that important. They’re buying my services: my years of expertise, my ability to talk to them, and to fix their issues with hosting when they arise.

In this part of the world, very few businesses own their premises. They rent or lease from property developers. In fact it’s quite common for businesses to lease or rent plant and equipment as well. Their customers generally have no interest in such matters, nor in the brands being sold (clothing excepted) - their interest is in the package of services and/or products that the business supplies. Is our business any different?

I rent disk space, bandwidth and tools in the form of my reseller account, which is “repackaged” into hosting plans, but mostly into full service Internet packages. Generally, discussions about how we provide the hosting doesn’t come up. However, I a customers does ask, then we provide them with as much information as they request. I don’t think that even once have we have been asked who our supplier is, but if it was asked, I would have no hesitation in providing the answer.

I don’t feel I’m in competition with JodoHost as I provide value added services that Jodo can’t, so how I provide my hosting doesn’t need to be a secret. However, if I was reselling plans that offered little in the way of value added services, I might feel that Jodo was as much a competitor as a supplier. I guess then my attitude to how anonymous Jodo is would be different

I guess: “True Private label Reselling: Be a complete independent host” means you should take care of this.

We are also not asking anything big. Just enable the WhoisProtect on the domains that’s all. It’s NOT a big thing also.

We don’t expect Jodo to be perfect but, when it is brought to the notice, you should act on this.

There is no priority to this. See the age of this thread. No one is bothered.

I like JodoHost but, regarding this I can’t understand their stand. :frowning:

JodoHost.com, M****here.biz and JodoVps.com are now Privacy Protected. It should start showing in whois shortly.

Hey Atul,

Thank you very much. It is really appreciated.

Am sure a lot of your Reseller Customers would be pleased.

I’m pleased. Nameservers still could be used though.
