Does Jodo Host have an option to have Private E-mail servers without going with a VPN hosting plan?
We have been extremely happy with the technical support and forum support for our sites on JodoHost, but the e-mail issues have caused us to move clients from JodoHost to other sites. The other places don’t compare to your support on all other issues.
But having e-mail servers on blacklists can cause a company to lose a lot of business. We’ve had a lot of angry clients and lost a lot of time tracking e-mail issues in the last few months.
It would be nice if we can have the option to have shared web hosting, but private mail servers so that we can have all of our clients on the same server. That way, if someone ends up on a blacklist, we can pinpoint it to one of our clients’ domains and not some other person who happens to be on the shared server.
As an alternative, and just a possible suggestion to those with issues with JH Mail, I have a a few clients who prefer to use GMAIL and WINDOWS LIVE MAIL email instead of the included JH service. Both offer free domain branded services and its simply a matter of changing the MX records.
Personally I use windows live mail as the server for my primary email for the fact that I like the direction they’ve taken with the advanced web interface, mail client access and very good spam filtering etc. Other clients love gmail (although I dont’ see it…).
The ‘big guys’ often have less issues with blacklisting (that I’ve noticed).
Anyway, that’s just a suggestion to anyone looking for alternatives.
We aren’t having it yet, but after we are fully migrated there will certainly be some new options alive and well. We will also be working to do outbound mail scanning on a minor basis to catch the obvious nigerian bank scams and trojaned computer spam that has been increasing here lately. These are normally from authorized senders in some form or another, so the mails do go out until we catch them. And yes it is a problem, and it is a problem for all, the outbound mail scanner would be a bit more capable of catching and holding this before it impacts others.
I found that useful, too. Windows Live seems to work well once I included SPF and made the connections on POP/SMTP secure. (Firefox Adblocker works fine for their webmail, too…)
Considering how much spam I still get that was sent through Hotmail accounts I’d be surprised if it was more reliable, but I guess the blacklist-keepers might be quicker to unblock servers belong to the ‘big boys’ when it does happen.
Outbound scanning for all JH mailboxes to catch spammers at source before they get us blacklisted would be a truly worthwhile addition if it can be done.
