Sorry to drag up an old problem, but I’m getting the same error “553 sorry, that domain isn’t allowed to be relayed thru this MTA” when sending through CDONTS from my webspace to a Hotmail address (and I suspect other servers too).

Do we have an explanation as to what actually causes that error?

You need to use SMTP authentication when sending email through web servers.
Also, if you are mass-mailing, you must fill out the mass-mailing form and send it to us. There is otherwise a 100 email/day limit per mail box
