Semi-Dedicated vs Reseller Server Loading?

How many users are on each server in Semi-Dedicated vs normal reseller shared hosting for Windows based accounts?

How many users are on each SQL Server for Semi-Dedicated?

Is the SQL Server run on a dedicated box for Semi-Dedicated or the same box as the webserver?

Semi-Dedicated would have 10 to 20 users. The MSSQL server for semi-dedicated is located on the same server and is used only by those 10 o 20 users.

In comparision, the shared servers have much more accounts.

The only real difference between Semi-dedicated vs Shared is lesser problems. Abuse issues can be located much faster and the signups on the semi-dedicated servers are screened so bad scripts are rarely a problem

How many users are on the shared servers?

Depends on server configuration and lots of other factors. Between 150 to 500 end-user accounts I’d say.

It varies and JH watches utilization closely. But when I checked my domain on win10 from www.dnsstuff.com its showing 748 websites on that server.

web2 (unix) shows 889.
Seems high to me, but i suppose its working ok. No real slowdowns I can tell of.

While Wincf shows to have 1036 sites. About double the high-end estimate?

he said 150-500 users, not websites

each user can have more than a single website

Ah, good point! I assumed end-user accounts were actual sites.

Yash, what are you counting as an end-user?

We really count by the number of websites not end-user accounts. Dual XEONs will have about 1000 sites on them. The no. of end user accounts vary.

1000 sites is quite little for the server configurations we run. And please note these servers run only web, not database or email. 1000 sites would have been high if database and email were on the same server.

Eeessshh, that is some range 150-1000+ Seems more overloaded thatn I hoped.

150 to 500 is the number of end-user accounts which varies.

The number of sites per server would always be about 1000 per Dual XEON.

These servers are absolutely not overloaded. They are pretty much underloaded. Remember we run a clustered evironment. The number may seem high but technically 3 servers are handling the load one server would take in a conventional environment. So effectively it can be assumed that there are 333 sites per servers.

Jodohost runs under a cluster? Is this something new?

We have always run under a cluster and this is the business model we have been following for years now.

But many hosts do not run in a cluster environment. The vast majority put email, db, dns and web on the same server

yash,

sorry to ask but could you explain a little more in depth what exactly is runnign on a cluster.

does this mean each server is separate?

Like I said thankf in advance for the dumb question.

thanks!

Ok,

a server that starts with “win” is a windows web server, it runs only IIS and websites, a server named “mssql” runs only MSSQL server, and so on.

It means that the windows server does not also have to process MSSQL dbs, Mail, DNS, etc, as there are specialized servers for each service.

Thanks for the clarification Stephen. Do Semi-Dedicated server run clustered as well?

Actually semi, the SD server has MSSQL on the same server as the IIS, but mail and MySQL(other services) would be handled external of the server.
