Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected (RESOLVED)

We are seeing problems when sending mail to Bellsouth.net addresses from the mail3.m****here.biz server. The message I get a few hours later is:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail3.m****here.biz.
I’m afraid I wasn’t able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I’ve given up. Sorry it didn’t work out.

[email protected]:
Sorry, I wasn’t able to establish an SMTP connection. (#4.4.1) I’m not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

— Enclosed are the original headers of the message.

I suspect that Bellsouth may be blocking email coming from this server. I verified that I could send to another ISP (insightbb.com).

I have tried 4 different bellsouth.net email addresses, and all of them resulted in the same type of message as above.

Most of my users just use their own ISP SMTP server to send outgoing mail. However, at least one of my users cannot do that - they must use the JodoHost mail server (and set to port 587). Again, they can email outbound just fine, but mail sent to Bellsouth.net addresses bounce.

This has only started happening in the last week or so.

I submitted a trouble ticket last night, but since my contact address is my Bellsouth account, I still have not seen any response to that (not even the TT confirmation).

I’m currently trying to “live chat”, but am waiting on someone to respond. Figured I’d go ahead and post to see if others are experiencing the same.

Any help appreciated…

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

Hello Dan,

We are researching and have tried to get the bellsouth techs to find where/why this is happening.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

Hey Dan,

I opened a ticket regarding this issue last week. I also called Bell South myself to find out what was up. I was able to come up with contact info for JH support to use to resolve this issue. At last report…

Hello Steve,

Called them and again sending them the headers.
They say they will need 48 hours.

Regards,
Tanmaya

I hope JH has better luck in dealing with them than I did as a Bell South customer. All they (Bell South) seem to like to do is deny everthing and try to focus attention to something else. Being the phone company my bet is it will be 48 hours times 4, but I hope not, it is really putting a kink in the works here.

Regards,
Steve

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

We have complaints regarding BellSouth, and are pursuing this… We will call them again and again till we can come with some resolution

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

I had a fun time with my cable provider about a year ago and them blocking email. They just refused to listen, but I wouldn’t let it die (techs and managers pised me off) and they ended up admitting they made a mistake and corrected it. Just took forever (couple weeks). Not long after that I went to dsl and I will never go back to them because of the whole thing and them being very rude.

cough cough MEDIACOM cough cough

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

I suggest Bell South DSL subscribers, that are experiencing the same problem, call DSL tech support at 888-321-2375 and tell them that you can not receive email from your work at your bellsouth.net email account.

With more people pushing for resolution, perhaps it will come faster.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

I called Bellsouth DSL Tech Support and after walking through their level 1 support questions, finally got the tech to submit a trouble ticket. She said to check the functionality in 48 hours…

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

Dan,

That’s one more ticket. I got the same response from Bell South last Friday and Tanmaya got the same on Saturday. I have been able to get a supervisor from Bell South to create his own ticket in order to follow the progress. He has actually been calling me (twice) regarding issue progress.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

I have a client that has a ticket open with BellSouth as well. They reported the problem to me on Friday morning (3/10). Hopefully they get this resolved soon!

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

We plan to wait 24 more hours on this.
If they continue to block our mail servers, we’ll start bugging them again.

I see no reason for their action. Our mail servers are hardly ever listed at any blacklist and we have a good outgoing policy for mass-mailing :frowning:

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

I’m now getting a new failure message…

*********@bellsouth.net:
Connected to 205.152.58.32 but greeting failed.
Remote host said: 421 Service not available
I’m not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

Any update on this?

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

I’m having the same issues. I lost a client over this issue about 6 months ago.

I’ve called BellSouth, sent the rejected email headers, etc. to abuse at bellsouth dot net, and have made no headway.

Help is needed.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

I received a call from Bell South this afternoon to inform me that it is still being worked on by their Engineers and they retracted a resolution time they gave me. Other than that, no new news from my end.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

The error Cliff posted looks like they are experimenting with their mail servers, that is really not a good in a production enviroment.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

a client of mine has been telling me about this for a few weeks too.
hope it gets sorted

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

I called BellSouth last night to find out where things stand with this issue and spoke to a level 2 agent. He implied that there was a problem with the prior ticket and a new one was issued earlier that day (Friday 18 MAR 2006). He said he would call back today and that the problem would be resolved by 5pm Eastern.

Any bets?

By the way it, seems that mail sent from Mail1, Mail3 and Mail4 is blocked by BellSouth. I receive bounces when mail is sent from 1 & 3, but with 4 the mail does not get through, nor do I receive a bounce message.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

A problem with the prior ticket?? What does that mean? There are at least 4 tickets open on this issue that I know of.

I think those guys are just idiots… IMO

LOL… That is what I asked, he finally said there was some information omited on the old ticket. I then asked, if there was enough information on the old ticket to make a new one why not just update the old one and just fix the problem? At that point he just started talking in circles, so I ended the call.

Re: Sending Mail to Bellsouth.net - Rejected

manopb… did they say which day by 5pm EST? I sent a test message at 8:30pm last night and it bounced back at 2:00am.

I just sent another test… I have a feeling it’ll be bouncing as well.
