Are you guys not using NAP anylonger??? I thought this was not the case??? I see all servers are being moved???
Nerermind I see the new post..
Everything still goes via NAP, we still have servers and routers in NAP as well.
I read the announcement about the moves. I’m a bit concerned about the plan to apply OS security patches during the move. I don’t doubt the need for such patches. But, it would make me a lot more comfortable to see you move the servers, make sure they’re working, then apply the patches.
It’s been a couple of years since I moved my hosting here from another reseller center. But the burn is still there…the conditions that prompted my leaving them stemmed in part from a botched move in which they tried to do too much all at once. The result was days of downtime.
There were lots of other surrounding circumstances with those problems. And JodoHost’s customer service and commitment is fantastic. I trust you guys to do it right. Just the same, I’ll be all kinds of nervous until the move is done.
Tim
We would need to power down the server anyway during the operation. OS patches need reboots. So we will achieve two things in one. But once again, if Stephen/Tanmaya assess any risk with applying the OS patches they will not.
The move you are talkig about skypanther, was a migration.. What they did is not only changed the IPs and networks, they rebuilt all the servers from scratch.. We would never do something like that, too dangerous
Migration, indeed. Plus a change of ownership and staff. All bad. Like I said, I trust you, the support, and the customer care you have provided me. My experience here has been superb. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be a bit nervous about the upcoming move, right?
Ultimately, I would be remiss in the eyes of my clients if I didn’t voice my concerns on the very small chance you folks have overlooked something.
Thanks for your reassurances and your commitment to quality service.
Tim
Tim,
We have a large amount of servers already in the MiaX location, winvps5 and win22 are pubilc facing, but we have many of the additional servers that are never noted there for over a month now, pushing insane bandwidth between the links and running seamlessly.
The windows patch, is mostly a new IIS bug patch, I do the other OS updates for the most part at the service level, looking at what was patched and restarting the service to apply the new DLL, this works with a good protion of the updates, and will with IIS one as well. I have the patch already installed on some servers at this point up and running with no problem at all. Just added that to the notice as well.
I am also here after that horrible move. It was not a fun time.
Just so you know, Tanmaya and I both are in charge of the move.
We are both working on every detail hands on and spending many sleepless days AND nights prepping for this.
We would not proceed if it was not a good plan, I fully expect a hiccup or two, but I know the network is solid, and I know with the plan we have in place, we can cease moving more servers one night and replan it enough days in advance that all clients are aware.
This is not a server migration, the hardware is 100% the same, its just moving the server a bit over 2 miles down the road(about 22 blocks)
Then drive those 22 blocks safely!
Is this post related to “Server Move Schedule email”:
http://support.jodohost.com/network-outages-updates/9670-network-maintenance-march-09-12-05-pm-est.html
I ask because the above post says about 2 mins, though the email sent out says:“The expected outage window for each server is 45 to 60 minutes”
Does that schedule per email still hold? I was going to email customers the schedule.
This maintenance is a different time period and just in preperation for the move we have to make one minor config change on the switch. ![]()
Only servers that will even NOTICE this are winvps5, win22, and vps2.
Ok thanx, I’ll send out my email(hope i can figure the times/dates correctly for down here)
btw…off topic, using the “mass mail” feature from reseller account times out every time i use it. Usually takes 3 or 4 goes doing a quick copy/paste to get it sent.
Hsphere is configured not to timeout, still it seems to have been taking longer to respond in mass-mail these days. We are working on a similar issue with Psoft and hopefully it should be all good soon.
I send my congratulations and thanks to all involved. The move seems to have gone off without a hitch. This is perhaps a bit premature given that you have a few servers left to migrate. But, the servers hosting most of my clients’ sites have been moved already. All seem to be working fine and no one has complained to me yet. I hope the rest go as smoothly.
I appreciate the long and late hours you all worked to make this happen! ![]()
