Slow download speeds

I have a site on wincf2 with an embeded SWF file on the page, as well as, a link to download the flash file to view later.

Currently, download speeds, on average, are less than 20 KB/Sec and most of the time less than 7 KB/Sec. This is causing the page embeded flash presentation to play for a couple of seconds, then pause for up to 1 minute, then play for a couple of seconds, then pause again for up to 1 minute. Should the download option be used, the file may take up to 8 - 10 minutes to complete or not at all, due to timing out. This file is only 2.56 MB.

Should I move the site to a Windows or Linux account?

well, a slow download speed really has nothing to do with the server. As our servers (unlike lots of hosts) isn’t configured to throttle bandwidth.

We don’t have any throttling anywhere on our network.. everything is uplinked at 1gbps

I’d suspect there is some bottleneck between you and our server. Are other visitors experiencing the same issue?

It must be network related. While I am now only getting downloads speeds of less than 7 KB/Sec, across town, with the same DSL supplier, speeds of 50 to 60 KB/Sec are obtainable.

Here is a current trace from my location, taken while downloading at 6.8 KB/Sec.

Download speeds are now much better. Latest test was 2.65 MB/Sec.:slight_smile:
