Over the last month or so i’ve noticed that sending email on my Jodohost hosted main account has become very slow. It takes 30+ seconds or more for a message to actually send. Other accounts on other hosts seem to be fine. Not sure if this is an issue on my end of the email server. Any ideas or things I can possibly check?
I wonder if this may be the ISP throttling the port 587 perhaps? Anyway to tell?
I am not seeing this here, from Sprint Mobile BB, Treo phone, or DSL(Bellsouth/verizon)
It could be some deep packet inspection slowing it, but not 100% sure. (Btw I also use port 587 as bellsouth and sprint BB have the normal 25 blocked)
Is there any other port that can be used?
Don’t think so 25/587, it may be possible to make others but they will get reset/changed often so it wouldn’t be good to announce we have it open.
Do you have a static IP with your Internet connection?
Its not static but rarely changes.
Can you PM me your current IP and your mailserver?
Thanks for the info!
The DNS servers fail when doing an rDNS (PTR) lookup for your IP. This is the reason of delay. Our mailservers do this lookup by design.
Is there any work around for this? I assume this is an issue with my ISP and I doubt they will fix it. Anything I can do?
I’ve done a change for this on submission port (port 587), however it will get overwritten by next Hsphere update. Please test using port 587 and let us know if the slowness in sending is still there?
Seems about the same.
And now?
It seems to be working perfect now, sends immediately. Thanks!
Ok great!
Problem with my first try was that I had manually set to check rDNS (PTR), while I was suppose to disable it on this port.
