Slow Network Connectivity?

From evening, I have been observing that my site has become extremely slow. :frowning: Even the control panel is slow.

My site is hosted on WIN7.

All other sites are working normally on my machine, so it’s not problem with my internet connection.

Also, my PHP script is not able to make use of mail function. It says can not connect to localhost. Have you disabled sending mails through localhost?

This is a network issue. There is some flapping going on causing this slowness which is happening intermittently

What is basically happening is that Level3 is going up and down confusing the BGP router (that load-balances all tier-1 connections). When a BGP link goes down, there is a few minutes of convergence

NOC is working on this issue, should be resolved shortly

No we have not, please submit a ticket for that

This seems to be very intermittant, but when it is slow, it’s REALLY slow…thanks for jumping on it guys…

OK, that is good to hear. I put in a ticket a couple of hours ago about this issue, and was told my site was loading fine. When I tried to connect again it was so slow to be almost not working, so I opened another ticket, and was told my site was loading in 3-4 seconds. It’s frustrating to be told repeatedly the site is fine when it’s not even usuable. I also cannot connect to MSSQL1 with EM. It times out.

I hope this issue is resolved soon. I wish the ticket people had, or gave, the same information that is given in the forum.

The problem with an issue like this is that if you hit it during an uptime - it works fine…then in 2 or 3 minutes it’s dead in the water for 2 or 3 more…I had one of my friends tell me my site was down and I pulled up a browser and bingo - loaded fine - then 5 minutes later - it quit on me…

So you see it and it’s down - put in a ticket - it gets to a tech and voila - it’s working they close the ticket - contact you - you check it out - boom - back down…it can happen that way with up & down issues sometimes…

Actually, I was not aware of the issue either till I called up the NOC.

But yes, they should have double-checked with them if there was a network issue rather than directly denying the issue, I appologize for that.

My main point was that there appears to be a known issue, but instead of informing me about it, I’m told everything works fine.

I’m not really sure what is going on with my site. There are people currently using it but I can’t seem to access it. Is what Yash has described affecting everyone who connects to my site (on Win5), which doesn’t seem to be the case, or is it dependent on where they are connecting from. I can get to any other non-JodoHost Internet site at normal DSL speed, but my site has been virtually inaccessible for several hours. I can’t connect at all to MSSQL1 with EM, but I can FTP with no problem.

It’s driving me crazy!

The issue is route dependent

The actual issue is with Level3… if you are being routed through them, you’d be affected the most. If you are coming in via other providers, you’d be affected the least

NOC is working on it, we’ll have this resolved shortly

Dave, I can access your site fine though.

Update: Level3 is having a massive DDOS attack. They are working to shut down the line responsible

I know what you mean…it can be really confusing sometimes because there are SO MANY variables that go into it…

Which server is affected?
Is it part of a farm that is only partially affected?
Which router is it hitting?
Is it IP specific?
Which server is your database on?
Is it affected?

That’s why it can be so frustrating cuz some can see it with little or no problem and others are totally down.

In my experience it’s best to adopt the wait and see mentality. If you do not have control over the server directly (like here) and you or some of your users are having problems, wait 24 hours. If the problem persists or gets worse - THEN begin to open tickets and complain. 90% of the time it’s an anomally that NOC will find and fix…if it’s still happening after 24 hours then you have a right to complain and be worried, mad, etc.

That’s just me though…
