Slow servers

I’m seeing a lot of slow-server reports in the outages forums… while I appreciate the quick work done to correct these, isn’t there a way of allocating max CPU time to each pool?

At least that way one site hogging CPU won’t affect the entire server if I understand correctly?

No. Thats the nature of shared hosting. We can’t do CPU throttling for reasons Stephen can explain when he’s back.
We have so many servers, and from time to time servers are abused by poor scripts.. Our monitoring systems alert us, we inform customers via the forum, stop the script and warn customer.

The volume of slow reports are really due to the fact we are monitoring the servers closely and we have close to 70 servers now.. Most hosts choose to remain silent..Overall, if you look at our uptime reports and performance on web scripts, I think we are at top of our game.

Thanks for the info Yash, point taken. Good to know you’re on the ball. I guess as long as it’s manageable and routine, that’s the main thing.

One suggestion - you should allow comments in the outages & announcements forums so we can post the odd thankyous for the hard work.

Cheers!

the last time we allowed that.. we had tons of discussion and the actual announcements were getting missed

I know where you get that idea from, but we like to keep our forums open to everyone, well managed and uncensored
